I just picked up a 2003 S600 Bi-turbo about a week and a half ago with 60K on the clock. I looked at the pre-03's and decided that my wallet would not be very happy. That being said, I have been spending lots of money on premium, feeling the 500hp at my toes.
Car now has 79,000 miles.
Apparent misfirings and engine light light on numrous times.Sparkplugs replaced twice in 1000 miles (16,000 and 17,000 miles) along with MAF sensor, ignition coils and an injector also at 17,000 miles. Ignition lock cylinder replaced at 31,000 miles, lower ball joints replaced at 42,000, Steering/suspension checked at 60,000 with parts ordered but not sure which ones. Electrical system checked 62,000 miles. Engine/powertrain computer/module checked at various times throughout the 79,000 miles.
That's most of it.
Thanks for your input!!
Dear GOD thats a lot of things to go wrong. well.... sounds like you have the same issue as ssonss with the misfire, or had... you really should make sure they check everything THOROUGHLY as its been well 60,000 miles since those problems, probably when it was brand new. Ignition lock cylinder is somewhat common issue, the ball joints are a really common issue and good to know they are replaced. The only BIG concern is the misfire issue. Check in with the dealer and let them know you are concerned about it and dont let them calm you down with their "its all good now" talk.
I got rid of mines, But Abc Problems started at about your mileage, then power steering moan as the pump life is ending. the valve blocks will go then the hoses The one that goes over the trans will cost about $4,000 to replace. It will go bad. if you notice that car has has the same issues that everyone else has stated i dont believe thats a coindience, its merely a fact that 01-02 are bad designs for all 600's(cl, s) (sl used different engine in 01) even after fixing of problems $12,000, it still leaked oil and misfired. I did love the car when all was well. get an 03 or s55 both are less problematic and just as fast, the 600 is known for being soo smooth and lux. do not buy unless you are prepared to spend some money on repairs and lose your ass on trade /sale. its only worth about $15k if repairs were done.
Thanks for some optimism ifari, I needed that!
Do you know anything about changing that filter from a 10 micron filter to a 3 micron filter?
I read a post from somebody about that.
Any ideas if that will help?
0to60 it does not matter even if you have all the repair record, its just that those years production and engineering works had tons of fault they failed to notice and was subsequently improved/re engineered after several years, go for the last 2 years of the W220 production model.

Thanks cool but I can't afford the initial expense of an '05 or '06 S600 even though my costs might be lower in the long run.
