Hey, I just became the owner of a 2001 S500, and I love it. Silver with Black interior, pretty much every option 75,000 miles, and in amazing, clean, blemish free condition. I've had the car about a week, and usually about once per drive, i will hear a loud sound behind me, It sounds like a half a second burst of radio static, or like letting the air out of a tire for half a second. Any ideas?
Does it sound like it could be coming from your seatback? Mine seems to adjust the lumbar support on it's own occasionally. Feels like it is refilling the air bladder (if there is one ;-) )
It might be that, i thought so at first but it seemed really loud to be just a seat bladder , (yes the rear seats have the air lumbar) I also noticed that it only happens when I go over a wave, or a dip in the road. Could it be the rear shock? I hear it comming from the passenger side.
