Electronic buzzing sound from dash

Does anyone notice a noise from the dash?

If I turn off the car but keep the dash lit up, it's there. Once the dash is off, the sound goes away.

It is a slight buzzing or humming sound and is only present once the dash is on.

I may take it in, but just wondering if this is normal.

I happened to be driving with the radio and HVAC off when I noticed it. I believe it's been there since I got the car.

2006 S430 4-matic.

Thanks!

dASH nOISE

There are two small fans which pull cabin air in to sample for air temperature (part of your climate control system). One is in the overhead light panel (you will see a small vent there), the other is in the climate control panel on the dash (you will see a small vent there too). These fans can fail (or start to fail) and you will hear a buzzing noise from the failing fan. I had the noise, had the fan replaced under warranty and all is good now. By the way, it is a pricy part because the fan is now integrated into the electronics so, at least for the overhead fan, the dealer had to replace an entire electronic panel, not just the fan.

I did hear the same sound from my climate control panel yesterday and now the blower doesn't work.My question is has the small blower has any thing to do with the big one ?? Thanks in advance ....

It's a capacitor in the guage cluster going out. I have the same issue.. It's the cluster going out.. unfortunately my 10 year warranty is gone as of last year.. but I read on here somewhere that there is a place that can repair the lighting on these clusters for a fraction of the price of a new cluster. I guess it comes down to whether you can afford to park the car for a week while the cluster is repaired to save 5-700$..

If you take out the key and it takes a minute or two to stop, and it stops like a little motor than it might be what I had. The sensor for the climate control might be plugged and more dust and artifacts may be touching the small fan that's causing the noises. It's easy to take apart. There's even a YouTube video on how to take out the climate control A/C On A Mercedes Benz. And these things are fairly cheap now to buy and replace yourself.

Hope this helps! (You guys helped narrow down my search for the noise so I figured I owed you guys creating this account just to post this :)
