D2B ring

Was at my local independant mercedes specialist today and I asked him whether I could bypass my cd changer so at least my phone would work (since my changer is faulty).

He said all I need to do is put both ends of the fibre optic cable together at the cd changer end so the light signal could continue.

Is this true? Anybody know the part number of the the 'joint connector thingy'

I just tried it and the telephone is still not working. Does the D2B ring need to be reset or re-programmed to not include the cd changer? How is this done?

Since CD changers are prone to stop working, I have installed my own aftermarket sound system but want the phone to work through COMAND. How can I do this?

Okay, now you are complicating things..

YOu can;t mix and match components on your d2b network. The only way a faulty CD changer will cause another component not to work is if there is a break in the light.

Usually thats not the case..

IF you have aftermarket sound, then how are you using d2b components in the first place?

The aftermarket sound is completely seperate from the D2B ring. I purchased a interface for the TV button which has three phono's (video, audio left and right). This is wired to a media player which I control via a remote control.

So the rest of the COMAND is completely standard. The CD changer is NOT working and I have no intention of getting a new one as my media player is 500GB and stores enough songs on there.

The PHONE is also not working, COMAND says NO PHONE.
The phone cradle and mobile phone works fine.
Now, the punchline: ALL I WANT IS FOR THE PHONE TO WORK WITH THE COMAND AND STEERING WHEEL CONTROLS.

The guy at the independant merc place says if I connect both ends of the fibre optic cable at the CD changer end, the ring will bypass the cd changer and the phone will work.
I have tried this and it is NOT working. Do I need to reset the ring? If so, HOW!

Is there nothing else I can buy to replace the current system so that:
1) I can keep the current aftermarket setup
2) My phone works with the COMAND and steering controls
(Reason being, the current mobile phone is an OLD Nokia 3110, I would like bluetooth)


Now off-subject:
I was considering switching to a widescreen COMAND which plays MP3's in the COMAND unit itself. As long as I could get a phone working with it, the steering controls AND the aux in (via TV button), I would be happy.
Will I need to change the dash and steering wheel for this to work? Or is it just not worth it.

And before anyone says just buy a new car, I don't want a new car-I like modifying and adding things. I'll post pictures up of my setup soon.

Comand has to be coded (programmed) with Star Diagnostic in order to see the phone in D2B ring.

for understanding, what do you mean the cradle is working?

WHen the command says "NO Phone" it means that the phone is not programmed in the system. If there was a problem with the phone AND it was programmed, it would say "phone not ready".

Widescreen DVD command is MOST.Unless you have a 2003 version that was non dvd.Those are D2B but I'm not sure if it plays mp3's like the dvd MOST version does.

This is not as simple as you think.

If you want to convert your car to MOST there are a few zillion things that have to be changed including all of your audio components a lot of wiring and thousands of dollars like $10K or something like that.. do a search about this here or the other benz forum you will find a good post about that.

I still think your issue has to do with incorrect programming. or set-up, or mix match components and little to do with the fact that you cd changer is shot.
