Is it me?
Is it me, or are the used prices of W220's in the UK ridiculously, cheap? I mean I saw a 1999 S320L on autotrader for £2150! Then the rest started at around £4000!
I mean these are cars that cost £60,000+ when new. Is it the credit crunch? Or are these cars destined to depreciate VERY quickly?
I bought mine a couple of months ago. I now see the same sort of cars at £3000 lower!
I have to agree I bought my car an S600 5.8 no turbo in March for book price and now see these cars selling with simular low mileage for £8-£10K. I have also seen many cars relisted time and time again for not making their reserve. There are a lot of cars out there that have issues dont forget that arent cheep to fix. This happened with the W140 S class but prices are now rising for a good W140. I myself have had a couple of expensive problems with mine in 6 months of ownership, failed aircon, failed command and a coil break on top of servicing. At the end of the day I still love my car and no other car feels the same. Enjoy yours, look after it and wait for the market to steady. All large expensive cars are going to be hit for a while yet.

Yeah, I'm wondering if this is only a UK problem or if the same thing is happening overseas.
Is it possible to buy a 2000 S500L in the USA for around £5000? I'm guessing thats around $10,000.
Has anyone recently sold their W220? What price did you get?

You can get an 00-02 for $10-12 grand here. You are seeing the law of demand and supply play out in front of you. No one wants a gas hogging Chrysler with a star on the hood that eats their wallet for lunch, so they are all selling them, making for a massive supply and super low prices. Only a Jag XJR can top the sharp depreciation these vehicles have suffered from.

Price of the car has nothing to do with the quality. It is the expected repair cost to make it so inexpensive to buy but not to own. If you know how to repair the car and it does not have any tranny problem, you do not have to worry. mB parts are expensive, people afford it may not want to deal with the problem and buy a new car from another mfg.

That's exactly what I wanted to say!
A week ago, on a russian Mercedes-Benz forum, somebody asked for advice before purchasing a '99 W220. I was surprized by the price of that car - about $15'000 (the least expensive cars start from 20K here). I told the guy what to look out for and warned him not to be too optimistic about that car.
Well, after he had inspected that W220, he told that the Comand unit was dead, the rear of the car was lowering 5 minutes after turning off the engine, something was knocking in front suspension. All in all - this is $5000 repair costs, at least.
So one thing for me is clear - you can't buy a good car for nothing.
