Thumbs up 2000-2006 S-Class DIY Oil Change

I made a PDF file that shows step by step how to change your oil for a 2002 MB CLK430. The same procedure should work for an S430.

This procedure also works for all the S-class MB's only the amount of oil maybe different. Check owners manual for Oil Capacity.

Yup, I have done two now on my S430, all oil changes should be DIY (if you want it done right for a reasonable cost), no reason not to DIY (unless it's not "your thing".) Thanks for the link, perhaps it will give others the inspiration to DIY.

Your oil extractor technique is interesting, efficient, and clean. I will consider using it but I use a Fumoto drain valve in all my cars. This still requires ramps, removal of the belly pan, a wide catch basin and quite a bit more labor.
My only question is does the suction technique do as good a job as draining re: pan deposits that may be better drawn out of the pan with drainage?
Very important: YOUR PIC SHOWS THE CORRECT FLEECE FILTER, PEOPLE, DO NOT MAKE THE MISTAKE OF BUYING THE CHEAPER PAPER FILTER.

I have heard that MB trained factory techs use a suction device to drain the oil that way so I don't think that method will be a problem

Yeah, I figured so since the techs do it that way (they also forget to tighten lug nuts so you really can't use their techniques as a guide all the time.)

This technique is great for MB and BMWs with a topside filter. On other cars where I have to go under to get to the filter I will stick with my beloved Fumoto drain valve and flick the lever whilst I am under there taking off the filter.

Spoons - Thanks for the posting.

On my 2006 S430, the engine has a red filler plug without a dipstick. While technology is great, a dipstick is much more convenient.

I use a pump and was curious as to how good it sucked the oil. After pumping it I pulled the plug and didnt get much more than a cup full so I am confident the suction method is great..

I used a pump and just to be sure I open the drain plug to see how much old oil is left. There was just droplets of oil left. Extractor do get close to all the oil out.

Sounds like a transmission plug, I can't imagine no oil dipstick, what is the world coming to. I guess you just have to depend on the electronics, I like an oil pressure guage but those are gone too.

I read somewhere that the paper oil filters are okay for the MB. Why is the fleece so much better? I got two paper filter for the price of one fleece. I plan to use the second paper filter at half FSS interval which I think will be more effective than using a fleece oil filter for the whole FSS interval.
