2004 s500 Car Phone

So I just bought a 2004 s500 4matic with the AMG package. It comes with the MB V60 cell phone installed in it. I currently have Sprint for my wireless carrier. How do I get the car phone line set up and activated? And since the phone is Verizon's do I have to get Verizon service? Can my current cell phone number ring in both the car and in my personal cell phone or does it require a different number. The car was missing the cell phone manual that's why I ask. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

The only V60 phone that meets the 911/gps requirements for cell networks is the V60s, which is a CDMA phone. Verizon (and possibly Alltel, Qwest, and US Cellular) run the only CDMA networks - so if you want to use a V60s, you'll have to change carriers. If the phone is not a V60s, no U.S. carrier will register it on the network. Because your car is an '04, your phone may be a V60s.

If your phone is not a V60s, and you purchase one (they are available through AWS) you will probably have to update your cradle because the V60s is slightly larger and will not fit into the older V60 cradles.

If those carriers are not satisfactory to you, you will have to go to a different solution. You can purchase a Bluetooth puck for your car, and use a compatible Bluetooth phone. See the sticky at http://www.benzworld.org/forums/audi...bluetooth.html.

If you use two phones you must have two separate numbers. If you use either a plug-in V60s or a Bluetooth phone, you need only one number. A plug-in phone will ring over your car's audio system. A Bluetooth phone may ring itself, as well as over the car's audio system (and the ring tones can be different).

Yes, as long as your cell phone has firmware that is compatible with the V60 puck. Check with AWS.

And it provides exactly what readout on a COMAND or MB radio, or instrument cluster screen? Which steering wheel buttons does it respond to?

Not, but I don't think it's that big deal either. As long as it mutes the stereo when I make or receive phone call, it works for me, and probably for most. Can't use the steering wheel button control, but the buttons on the system is mount conveniently right near the shifter.

When I'm a phone w/ someone, I don't need a display on IC or Cmd of who I'm talking to.

I can program the system to announce the caller name/number (on speaker) when calls arrive, so it helps.

I can use voice activation to make a call, and its voice activation feature is excellent, and sure is safer than navigating through the IC or command screen.

I don't know how good the OEM phone system is on the W220, but I'm sure mine is much better (clearer & much more conveninent) than the OEM one on my brother S550, and he paid load of money for it, and his can only work w/ certain phone

All I'm saying is that one should take into consideration the Non-OEM phone kit. Most of the portable plug-in system suck, but one like Motorola or Pioneer are excellent, require a bit of installation works, but once done, offer good value for $$.

I have a Sprint Treo 700w that has bluetooth built in to it. Do I need any further hardware for my phone to work over the sound system or to ring while I am in the car?
