The front passenger seat headrest rattles. I tried lowering it all the way, but there seems to be play in the posts, so it will rattle if the road is rough. The driver side has some play, but does not make the noise - probably because I'm sitting in it. It's more annoying then anything else. Any tips?

Yes, I did a search first and thanks in advance. :D

Do you have ventilated seats ?
If yes, believe it or nor, it comes probably from the cable of the vent which rattles to the vent mount.

It's definitely the headrest guides. There's too much play and it wobbles (rattles) when going over rough roads. Maybe some electrical tape to thicken it a bit would help.

Thought there was a more technical answer. I rarely use that seat and it's so annoying. Before I try this home ready, anyone other suggestions?

Thanks!

Raise the headrest all the way up. Lower the seatback all the way back. Pull the headrest out of the seat. Put one headrest bar in a vice (with rubber protective covers to not scratch the bar). Bend the bar just a little. The two bars should be just wide enough that you have to push in a little so they return into the seat back with tension. No more rattle.

Using the electric controls, I put the seat all the way forward, then lowered the seatback all the way down. I raised the headrest to its highest level. Then I sat in the back seat and carefully pulled the headrest out of the seat back.

I didn't think this up. But the tip I had was to pull the two bars outward to create the extra tension. I was able to stop when I realized that I was at risk of ripping the leather wrapping! So, I used my vice to just bend one side just enough. I used rubber on the vice to not scratch the chrome bar.

After 10 months still no rattle.

It may not be your car's problem, but whenever I need new tires or have low tire pressure, the passenger headrest rattles at straightaway highway speed. Its like a canary in a coal mine.
