Question weight limit of S500 roof rack?

Anybody know what the weight limit is of the roof rack MB sells for a 2003 S500? Part # is B66848334 Width would also be useful if anyone knows. (I called MB HQ and my local dealer but all they were able give me was the part# and price) Also, does anyone make an aftermarket rack?

I didn't know they made a roof rack for our cars! Please post pics if you get one.

Welcome a-board Mike!!

Thanks for the welcome!

Unfortunately I can't find any pics. However, if you go to www.mbusa.com and follow the build-your-own process for an 07 S550, you can select "accessories" and get a popup window that shows the rack. I assume the rack for an 03 S500 is similar. Here is the description:

2007 Accessories
Roof Rack Basic Carrier
Our Roof Rack Basic Carrier is an essential component for attaching a wide assortment of items to the top of your S-Class. After easy installation, you can securely attach and lock bicycles, ski, snow, or surfboard racks, or a cargo container. (Racks and containers are sold separately.)

Note they still don't list weight limit or width. The large cargo carrier is rated to carry 110 lbs, and the carrier itself is probably at least 50, so presumably the rack is good for at least 160. But I can't find that explicitly anywhere ...

Thumbs up

I have the MB roof rack. i couldn't find another that fits from Yakima or Thule. it works great & doesn't even touch the paint or roof.
it mounts on little srew posts under the weather stripping around the doors
I'll post some pics tomorrow.
I have only used it for 2 mountain bikes, but i don't know the weight limits - sorry.

Would you mind having a look to see if the weight limit is marked on the rack somewhere? It should be. (pretty standard for most cars)

By the way, here is my setup on one of my other cars:

About 150 lbs on 78" Thule bars on the OEM roof rails. Rails are only rated for 100 lbs, but I have never had trouble with 150 and the canoe is strapped down to the frame of the car anyway.

Hi Mike,
The set of roof bars that I have are marked up 100 kg and the width of each bar is approx 1.5". Also unfortunately only Mercedes make roof bars for this car.

^^Thanks. I guess I should have been more precise; I was looking for width as in width across the car not the width of the bar itself.

Sorry mike,
The length at the top of the bars is 49.5 inches end to end and the space between them is 29.5 inches. hope this helps.

Just took these pics with the bars placed roughly where they would normally fit
