Well... Obviously the one labeled "Mercedes". Seriously, there are basically two types of filters: The filter with paper filter element and the filter with fleece filter element.

Consensus is that for the regular 10-12,000 miles oil change interval, you need to use fully synthetic (e.g. Mobil 1 0W40) oil and fleece oil filter. Someone has said the paper filter may not withstand this long oil change intervals.

At least Mann makes fleece filters.

I highly recommend using only OEM oil filter. Here is a link to a place you can purchase the filters at wholesale price:

http://www.germanfilters.com/2001-s5...1446_2772.html

Good luck!

I agree, my Indy uses MB OEM and I haven't had a lick of problem. Just had the differential and Tranny drained and flushed w filter replacement at 50.000 miles and it shifts silky smooth and purrs like a happy kitty... It really made a noticable difference.

Question Why pay more when you don't have to?

Or buy online and pay less for the exact same OEM Mann oil filter that the Dealership sells. Here is the link again:

keep in mind that these are OEM filters that the MBZ Dealer sells, not aftermarket...
