Premium gas?

At the moment, my S430 is being shipped to me. I have read that premuim fuel is required. Can anyone shed some light on this topic? Will I hurt the engine by using a lower grade? Can I use 87 or 89 octane?

Thanks

Premium fuel only. You can use lower octane gas, but in the long run it won't be pretty.

You can do a search and you'll get many threads explaining it in more detail.

I am sure there are many opinions on this is...my whole thing is, you have a premium car, fill it with premium gas.

Be good to your car and it will be good to you.

My 2 cents.

Not worth going with lower octane...

Many people wonder if they can get away with using a lower octane, especially as fuel prices rise. As was already stated, the reasons why its no good for the engine has already been reviewed. One thing to keep in mind is that the price difference is really not that much when you do the math. The probem is really the price of gas... not the difference between the grades.

Say you travel 12,000 miles in a year... and get 18mpg.... that's only 666 gallons of fuel/year. If you save 10 cents per gallon by going one grade lower (which is the norm around here in New England)... that's only a $67 savings in a year. Most people think the savings is more. So, really hardly worth worrying about the small savings that most people would realize by using a lower octane.

Do what your Owner's Manual says and burn at least 91 Octane.

Well, I'm just not use to a Mercedes, some cars have quirks that others might not have....... I was just looking for some confirmation from Mercedes users!
