looks like you got rear ended or someone backed into you. from the looks of it the paints has spidered and the whole bumper will need to be repainted. sorry for the bad news if you didn't already know it.

I hate tell you, but I think it is likely you may have to replace the whole bumper if someone hit it hard enough to do that. It looks like a corner-bumper-hit too, which makes it more likely the integrity of the bumper has been compromised. Could be wrong, but I would have a pro look at it.

The weird thing is there is no bump or dent ... just missing paint and those scratches. Could this be an intentional act of malice ?

Looks like it took a swing hit. Someone misjudged their distance backing out and turning. One of our vehicles took a hit like that last year and it split the bumper horizontally about 2 inches. Had to replace and repaint to the tune of $1200.00 Sorry...

I have seen bumpers that were hit and had little visible damage, but were destroyed under the paint. Bumper material is like corrugated cardboard: You can destroy the corrugation inside w/out any noticeable damage to the surface. Not sure about MB bumpers, but I have seen total loss of bumper integrity w/ just one smack to the corner. Get it checked by a pro.
