What's in the glass of a S?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For the past 6 days I have been using a Garmin Street Pilot GPS system in my car. It works perfectly. Yesterday I tried to use it in my wife's car and it was unable to capture any satellites. She drives a 2004 Mercedes S and I drive a 2005 Mrecedes SLK. Neither car has any aftermarket treatment to the glass...and neither one appears to have any tint.

I use a Magellan in my '91 420 SEL and it works fine. It sometimes takes 5 minutes to capture a satellite though.

I know that in the S Class there's iron oxide in the glass for UV protection. The only part of the windshield that doesn't have it is arond the rearview mirror where there is black screening.
That's why MBZ recommends that electrinic toll collection transponders be placed up there.
My garage door opener has difficulty getting a signal out too, so I try to use the RV mirror integrated openner & get spotty performance.

What about the rear window....could I use a remote censor there?
