i have spoken to mb customer service they say because my car although collected direct from the factory is on a dubai code it is not covered by the "mobilolife " warranty.
the implication being that if it was a european car they would fix it.
any one else come across this problem.
i am tempted to get the work done and then pursue it through the small claims court in the uk.
i suspect it will cost them a lot more to attend court than settle.
I went to the local Benz body shop today to have some delayed work done (I'm having the bumper resprayed to cover road chips instead of touching it up), we've been having a strike so it's 3 weeks overdue. The manager I deal with had already heard about the rust issue on the car. He told me that it was covered by "the Campaign" and If I was willing to let them have it for a couple more days they would take care of it.
Even with as little rust as is at issue here, they are going to strip and repair the lower edges of the doors, then re-shoot up to the level of the door trim.
This seems very reasonable and I'll let you know how it turns out.
I have a 2000 S500. I'm wondering what this "campaign" is. My dealer has essentially said I'm on my own. For those of you who have managed to get your dealers to cover the cost of these repairs (specifically for cars out of warranty), please let me know what you said and what they said. Also, RBs, are you located in the U.S.? Maybe UK or Euro MB dealers are working under another premise. Thanks.

I'm in the U.S. Midwest. I had no difficulty in having the problem addressed.
I have received my S430 back from the dealership. The body shop did a very nice job on the minor corrosion that was on the doors. The service manager told me that they had stripped the bottom of the doors, repainted the lower section, and had applied silicon to the lower edges before reinstalling the stripping (per MB instructions). Looks good.
Also, when the bumper was removed to be re-shot, they found that it had a crack in it. The dealership I purchased it from sprang for a new one ($629.00), and it was sprayed and reinstalled as well.
The only problem I have, the "Check Engine" light came on as soon as I had driven it home. It isn't driving roughly or displaying anything unusual in terms of noise or performance, however, it seems to be too much of a coincidence.
I'm having the Wife drive it today to see if it clears itself (3 cycles), but I'm keeping an eye on it. Where can I purchase a reader (national car chain) to see what's wrong? Any thoughts anyone?
whats the deal with the check engine light anyway....no matter what, i take it in to have service and it almost always comes back on...just had the oxygen sensor replaced (that is why the service light was on...supposedly) and now the check engine light is on every other day....also does anyone know what the name of the rust campaign is...can I mention anything specific when talking with the dealer about my rust issue?

I had the spouse drive it as usual and the light re-set itself. I'm on good terms with our local MB indy (great service), he told me that was the smart thing to do before bringing it in. Just added the flat Benz badge on front, found that the star was almost ready to come out. CHECK the security of your star! Mine was just sitting in the opening!
