I had a friend call today and said his 02 e500 had the transmission go south. I looked at the fluid and ran a simple test. Over the limit on coolant and suspended metals. The radiator held suction within limits so there were not any leaks. The car is out of warranty but only has 98k on the odometer. M/B said they don't offer flushing services. I don't have the equipment but called a shop that did. The oil he uses is called SynLube Lube-4-Life, rates Viscosity Index VI = 210,Minimum Operating Temperature -65°F (-54°C),Maximum Operating Temperature +520°F (+270°C). This exceeds what M/B uses. The shop charges 680.00 for a complete flush with filter change. I can assure you that my two will get the treatment at 40k!
Just a heads up for those of you that forget about the "lifetime" oil that translates all that torque into acceleration.
benz can do flushing. I do it all the time. if you ask a service advisor they will say no because its not a menu item. they have to ask a tech how much they will charge to do it. the way I flush the trans is different then how independent shops do it. you basically disconnect one line at the trans and run the car while fluid comes out you add new fluid untill fresh fluid comes out.
