I would greatly appreciate it if someone could tell me what the correct oil is to use in a 2000 S430. The lame owners manual is of no use. My local lube shop insists that I use non-synth castrol 10w-30 but I was under the impression that synthetic was called for. No one seems to know for sure and its extremely frustrating.
I just want to know what brand/type/weight Mercedes officially recommends for my car. In case it helps, I live in a climate that gets down to 30 degrees in winter and up to 110 degrees in summer. Someone, somewhere on this earth has to know!
Hmm. Yes - My dealer (MB Manhattan) reccomends MOBILE 1 Synthetic, but i dont know the grade either. I suggest calling ur local dealer, or to play it safe, put in the best.

The answer is Mobile Synthetic only, never a traditional oil. The lubrication qualities of synthetic are far superior to the petro based variety. Oil type should be 0-40 weight, mobile 1 is offered in 0-30 and 0-40.
My owner's manual refers to a separate booklet - the Factory Approved Service Products Pamphlet - or says to refer to the dealer. As normrkey indicates, my pamphlet definitely recommends synthetic oils and lists types and viscosities for different brands.
I would not rely on what your local oil change quick-stop tells you. This is a time to trust your dealer and the Mercedes-published materials.
