Wheel and tire size question

I have a 2003 S430 sport AMG Package with AMG wheels. The current tire size are 165/40X18 rear and 145/45X18 front. I have know idea what size the AMG rims are.

This is my question, I'm considering buying some wheels that are 18X8 all the way around, will I be able to mount my current tires (list above) on these 18X8 rims?

Thanks in advance.

RE: Wheel and tire size question

Are you sure your tires aren't 265 and 245 wide? Otherwise your car would be riding on bicycle tires.[:)]

I have 245 wide tires on my 8.5 wide front rims. So your front tires would probably work. On the back I think that you need a wider rim to fit the 265's.

You really should have staggard wheels/tires on that car, unless you are putting winter tires on the wheels.

Hey Greg--Tricks are good, but missed out on a lot of treats Monday night. Saw your posts on T&W.

BTW: How's your old Harmonic Balancer? I'm having the dealer check mine tomorrow when they install a new burl walnut steering wheel and shift knob. I saw Neveda Jacks upgrade and had to do it too.

Cheers

Greg, not too much info...I appreciate it.

Ramp, why do you say stay staggard. Is it purely for appearance? I;m leaning that way.

What wheels do you have. Are those from the Dealer?

I'm thinking about not getting chrome. It's a little too much bling for my wife I think.

I do like your style wheels on the S-class. Sweet

RE: Wheel and tire size question

Gp03,

I say staggard because that is what is expected of a car like yours. It is NOT purely for appearance. It is a major handling issue too, and if you doubt that please talk to Luke at The Tire Rack. He can give you book and verse on why you want your summer tires/wheels staggarded. My wheels are AMG double-spoked 18X8.5 and 18X9 and I have Goodyear Eagle F1 tires (see attached photo). I have four 225/60R16" Michelin X-Ice tires on my OEM wheels for winter. I got the AMG wheels and two sets of tires from TTR, w/ the help of Luke. You should give him a call.

The AMG wheels are very sophisticated, IMO, and your wife could never mistake them for bling.

RE: Wheel and tire size question

GP, what color is your car? Punch up the profile when you get a chance. If it's black or white, heavens, chrome looks particularly AWESOME on those. (Of course the lazy man in me hates the idea of polishing the chrome...) Silver I tend to drool more over the brushed or polished aluminums or some of the black spoke/polished lip wheels. Yummm.

But that's just one poor E owner's opinion. :)

Ramp, I saw Jack's pics, that looks absolutely gorgeous. I did the wheel and shifter route in my E, went with a solid wood shifter to match the interior because I really like the color. But that one on Jack's, damn, that is pretty. Toss up a pic or two when you get a chance. Mine are someplace in the E forum (with my new wheels) if you care.

GP, to my knowledge, other than the look (and handling at the limit), there's no real reason to stay staggered. Those big fat tires do look sweet when you're sitting behind the car with them, though.

Take care and enjoy your sweet rides, guys.
Greg
