well, after research this forum a bit before I went car shopping today at the local dealer, to test drive w140 w220 and a 2001 740li, well this is just my opinion
both the w140 and the w220 drove very similiarly like each other, like driving a big boaty feeling, it looked absolutly awesome on the outside driving those cars but at the end of the day it didn't feel engaging, something was lacking , and the handling wasn't as aggressive as I would have liked . I tried the 740li, it was very flickable and felt like a car half its size, I spent most of my test drive carving up and down a hill at about 70 to 80. I was also going to try the w211, but it was simply out of my price range and the size was too small for my tastes. Having said all this, I was recommended by a friend to wait for the 2007 s-class release in jan/feb as the current w220 prices will fall some what...maybe not noticably.
I think I am going to go with the w220 because although it isn't flickable like the bmw, I liked the sturby ness of the driving, Its in my target price range ( 30 - 40 K) , and it satisfies my biggest quirk , it looks good inside and out.
and I hope that after I purchase it I can spruce up the handling a bit better with suspension upgrades. so just asking before I make this purchase, are there good suspension upgrades to the w220 ?
