| TC,
There have been a number of posts and quite a few updates on compatibility of the Mercedes Bluetooth modules with different phones. Some phones download more than others, and AWS (Mercedes' partner for wireless installations) seems far more conservative in "approving" RAZR V3 phones with MB systems than reader experience would warrant. However, most phones (of all types) will not download all of their features to COMAND via Blutooth in the U.S. MHI setup. Most will download usable features such as the phone book, and can be operated through the steering wheel buttons. Some show caller ID on the instrument cluster display but not the COMAND display. Many do not download all messaging features. The lack of "full integration" is one reason why I still use a Moto V710 plugged in, rather than going to Bluetooth. I want all of the design features. The other is that I want full range, especially on long trips - which I get because the plug-in system for MHI and earlier uses the car's antenna and not the phone's more limited antenna.
The European UHI BT installation uses the SIM Access Profile (SAP) and accesses the car's antenna because in a sense it "clones" your phone to the car's own internal electronics - essentially, a built-in cell phone (that you never see). The U.S. MHI installation does not use SAP. Depending on your provider's firmware, it uses various implementations of the Hands Free Protocol (HFP). The differences in the implementation of the HFP accounts for how much information is accessed in different phones by the MB Bluetooth setup in the U.S. With respect to the RAZR V3, its MB Bluetooth compatibility is dependent on the firmware loaded into the phone. I know nothing about the firmware your service provider uses.
Having full integration with the V710 plugged in to the MHI, I leave in it the car, and use no-answer call forwarding from the V710 to the RAZR V3 I carrry. It works well for me. I don't like carrying the thick V710, and I don't have to worry about forgetting to insert or unplug the V710.
Regarding your '00, you definitely need a V60 cradle to use an MB Bluetooth module. You may or may not need to upgrade your PSE - several contributors have posted conflicting information attributed to AWS regarding whether the TimePort or digital StarTac PSE will function with the V60 cradle in a Bluetooth configuration. Some say they will, others say you need to upgrade to the V60 PSE as well. The earliest non-digital (analog only) StarTac installations will not work with the V60 cradle.
You could consider the Argos Bluetooth installation for your D2B cars. It replaces the PSE and is a standalone unit - somewhat expensive, but many folks seem happy with it.
I have never seen the unit to which you provided a link - however, use of SAP has been a feature of the European UHI installations, not the US MHI or earlier installations. I doubt it will work with MHI or earlier installations. It might be worthwhile to write MB (or AWS) and ask what cars it can be retrofitted to.
