As per my manual the scheduled service includes oil change as part of the warranty. The service tech at the dealer where I bought it told me I have to pay for one oil change and the dealer pays for the next one?? Is this true? or are they pulling a fast one?

I should know the answer to this one, but for the moment, some guessing:
if the car is MY04 or older, your A's and B's should be covered under warranty. If you have Flex, I think then you have to pay for some of the services. IF it's an MY05, I believe you have to shell out for all A's and B's. Once again, that's just a guess, I'll be sure to find the truth tomorrow, or someone can correct me before then :)
MB Adam, Thanks I think mine is flexible (2003MY). I will double chek the manual. So If have to pay for oil change, I was told $150 at dealers. Can I get it done elswhere cheaper and then would that have anything to do with them resetting the scheduled A & B on the dash. Or to say it simpler, I if have the sceduled service done at MB but not the oil change, they will reset the service light and then I could get done elsewhere cheaper?
Frank S500,
Yes the US Marketing ploys are different. In fact, BMW has just started advertising here of all maint. included in the warranty such as oil etc but even Brakes even. That is definitely revolutinery for USA even. So you guys in Europe are getting hosed, pardon my French( Pun intended)
this is excerpt from BMW site:
Estimated maintenance costs over 6 years/100,000 miles
Oil changes $0.00
Windshield wiper blade inserts $0.00
Brakes, including rotors and pads $0.00
Scheduled service inspections $0.00
Belts $0.00
Engine air filters $0.00
Brake fluid service $0.00
Total $0.00
Total $0.00
Yeah, the BMW plan is going to force MB to change some things around, at least in my opinion. The biggest hit is the brake services. As far as getting your services done, in their opinion, the service hasn't been completed unless your oil has also been changed, so I can't see the dealer resetting the counter for you, but it's not something you can't do, I just have to try and remember the process in which it's reset. On your typical A-service oil change, there's about $50-$65 worth of "parts" being charged, mainly the filter and 8-8.5 quarts of synthetic, there's really no way around that, and I wouldn't suggest anything but the one proper filter and the appropriate weigt synthetic oil ... the rest, of course, is labor. It all depends on the dealer, but in my opinion ours is pretty fair on the price of oil, we use 0 W40 Mobil 1 synthetic, and charge it out at $5.50/qt I believe, and that's not bad considering it's weight.
Thanks, I guess in for a penny in for a pound. Thats what you get when you buy a MB. The purchase of the car only gets you in the club, I'm learning. Its the extras that pile on ;). I did put a post on anyone doing there own Brake Jobs. No replies, so it must be most s-class owners dont worry about savings. Unfortunatley I dont live in Palm Beach and my neighbor isnt The Donald. [:(]
hehe, no worries, just because you own an S class doesn't mean you can't or shouldn't be mindful of your spending when it comes to the vehicle. I'll see what I can dig up for you regarding the oil changes, and I've sent you a pm about the brake pads.
My 2 cents
If your vehicle is a my04 or older and you have original factory warranty then your services are covered,A and B service's and certain other "additional work" repairs i.e brake flush and coolant flush if it is due is also covered. The dealer may decline to perform a warranty service if your vehicle is not due by time or mileage, seen on counter in fss display on instrument cluster.Parts at a regular price for a typical B service in so.cal would be aprx. $150.00(syn.oil included) v12 higher.
Maybach $till has free maint. for 2005
As far as the dealer trying to charge you for one and they will cover the next one......(?) that is B.S ! call the manager for a explanation.
MB doese have a maint. program you can buy with your new vehicle to cover the services.
hope this helps
Sam
I believe that is correct now that I hear it from someone else, MY05 is a different story though ... [:(]
If it is time for a service, and you are still under warranty, I'm pretty sure Sam is right, so call another dealer if you have to just to hear them tell you how it's supposed to be. Good luck ;)
