On wednesday night I got a 2005 S500 4matic as a replacement for a 2004, that was in the shop more than it was in my driveway. I was wondering if anyone knows if it's possible by programing or coding to set the navigation system up to play a DVD movie. Thanks Big Al
RE: Is the navigation system able to play a DVD movie
On the new DVD Navigation (called COMAND APS) you cat feed the DVD movies into the slot on top of the COMAND unit and it will then play the DVD.
I live in Europe so this is at least how it works here (on my 2004 E320T 4Matic wagon), but I guess it appies to US models as well.[:)]

RE: Is the navigation system able to play a DVD movie
I have a 2004 S430 (United States). My dealer told me the navigation would show the picture of the DVD when the gear is in Park, and just play the sound otherwise. I tested, and it plays the sound of the DVD in both Park and any other gear, but I have not been able to get any picture.
RE: Is the navigation system able to play a DVD movie
We have not yet been able to figure out if it is 'just' the firmware in the US specs that need to be updated... Could be that it can't get updated at all.
Go for a Euro comand if you REALLY want to be able to watch movie DVDs... and hook up a TV tuner, rear monitor etc.[:D]

My dealer said to look in a Mercedes enthusiast magazine published in europe and there is an update that allows dvd video as in europen models. I have not been able to located the ad for the update. It should be a firmware update. No help from the dealers here. I guess enabling it would be like removing a catlytic converter.
