My 2004 Nav CD that i purchased was working until this morning - the Comand keeps ejecting the CD and the Insert Nav CD shows up on the display - i have tried reinserting it several times - keeps ejecting - also it seems as though i meet with a little resistance while inserting. When i place the CD in the tray and press the eject button it inserts fine only to be ejecting in a few seconds.
The first suspicious is the rubber roll from the slot in mechanism.
With the time the rubber collects dust and dirt. Unfortunately every time you insert/remove a CD the dirt is pressed on the bottom of the CD and produces with the time little scratches -read errors.
If you need a hint how to clean the rool... call
Other things may be... copied CD... misaligned laser... Overheating because blower in comand is defective...
This is an Original NAV CD - this problem just started this morning - yesterday after a while I actually used the NAV CD(just testing and I wonder if the problem was related or was an effect of the usage) and it worked just fine.
How do I clean the roll? who do i call? What are possible other solutions?
The only other thing i can think off is I took my Wi-Fi(G) laptop with Webcam into the car twice with NAV ON for a about 10-15mins each time (i've read about electronic interference but wonder if it has anything to do with this and has any long lasting effects)???
UPDATE: I turned on the car this morning - it sucked the CD right in and proceeded to load the NAV Interface.
I ejected the NAV CD then to clean the head with a CD cleaner - it popped that CD right out - so after 3 spins at it - I re-inserted the NAV CD and then again same NO CD - Insert NAV-CD Only??
I too have a 2000 s500 giving the same Insert Nav cd no nav cd found. When inserting the cd it will not accept it as though the powen is off. I have checked the 5amp fuse on the rear of the CD and it is good. Any suggestions.
I don't have a definitive solution, but a suggestion. After having a software update performed on my 2000 S500 to cure a problem with audio dropout in the Bose system (loss of sound on all channels), my Nav system exhibited similar symptoms to what is described - except that unlike tcflya's problem, mine was a constant reject, not intermittent. I kept getting the exact same readout that both of you report.
With the car still under warrantee, the dealer replaced the Nav unit. Frankly, given the particular dealer's unease with the COMAND firmware, I always suspected it was a firmware problem. And when I got the new Nav system, the dealer had not programmed it for my stock wheels (I had set the tire size properly), and the system was inaccurate - errors of 1/4 mile in a 10 mile trip.
Frank's suggestions are good ones and should be tried first. Beyond that, look to your firmware.
Sorry, as I said, it's not a definitive answer.
TC, did your problem return, or has it kept working for you?

I have a 2001 S430 and my problem was similar. In my case I could not get the CD to eject. Luckily the car was under warrenty and MB replaced the entire head unit - screen and all.
Sorry I just saw this post (been travelling some) - My problem may have returned but one more time since my last post above and hasn't returned since. My feeling was it could have been the weather - but really i don't have a clue.
I'll keep ya'll posted. Overall i think these issues suck![|)]
