Has anyone come across a receiver hitch installation (possibly concealed) on an S-class? I would hate to do it, but I have a small, open motorcycle trailer and I would much rather drive across the country in my 2000 S430 than my truck. Thanks.
I have a "Brink" detachable towing hitch on My S320 with the electrical plugs positioned out of sight below and behind the lower skirt. When the hook is removed it is completely undetectable. The hitch slots in and can be secured with a key.

I called M-B HQ and a local dealer and they both said towing was not recommended because a trailer could interfere with the operation of the traction control system. So the next question is whether this is really a big deal? Can the traction control be disabled?
I have also installed the detachable hitch from brinks on my car and as JDP says you cannot see a thing once its been removed. Installation is quite strait forward but, you will need a 90 degree drill head as you need to drill through the inner liner on each side of the trunk and space is tight. You also need a control box for the electrics in order to fool the light warning system or it will display blown bulbs each time you connect a trailer. The bumper also needs to be removed to install it. The whole job took me about half a day to complete with all the wiring. etc. As for problems towing, I have pulled a car trailer to a few shows with no problems at all

Also forgot to mention, if MB say towing is not recomended then how come you can have a towing hitch fitted as a MB optional extra when ordering your car new as shown in the owners manual ?????
^^Maybe on 2000 models the tow hitch was an optional extra but MB told me in no uncertain terms that on the newer models only the SUVs were recommended for towing. And if you look on mbusa.com they do not seem to have tow hitches available on the sedans and wagons.
I'm sure towing is no problem as long as the traction control never kicks in. If it does, though, it may not work properly ...
Here in Europe the towing hitch is still an option on post 2003 models, only instead of it being detachable, it folds away underneath out of sight. I guess MBUSA are just covering themselves in case somebody does have a wreck whilst towing and so the option has been removed from the US market.
