I must admit, at the age of 19 I've got no where near the amount of money I'd need to buy a w220, but I'm wondering what w220 drivers expected from the car before they made the purchase. I often hear about quality problems, and people often seem to have regret that they ever bought the car. I'm wondering about the fit and finish. Do people not notice the low interior quality, and other flaws when they are in the showroom? Are people still expecting the same reliability found in the earlier models of the 1980s? I'm just curious. The w220 S600 with it's 500hp ( 493 in North America ) is my dream car. Yet I'd only get one if I had plenty of time and money to spend on the car. I wouldn't expect much myself because of what I hear.

Modifications? NONE, GAR NICHT. Ich werde nie ein Mercedes verstümmeln.
I must admit I am very loyal to Mercedes, and could never drive anything else. But untill there is an improvement in quality and service, I wouldn't spend money that I've worked hard for on a new Mercedes.
My father was going to buy a 2001~2002 Mercedes and when he walked into the dealership (with my mother, who goes car shopping with thier wife if they are not serious?) and the people there told him to go away and just gave him a brouchure.
He went to the BMW dealership and never looked back, BMW's seem to have a bit more pep to them, maybe thats just me.

And that has to do with Mercedes, how? Looks like you should have gone to another dealership.

We did, it was BMW though. I'm not dissing MB's, I adore mine (it was my grandfathers before he got sick), but when your treated with no respect it says something about the company.
I was really looking forward to getting to drive a S500 too [:(]
