Can you believe this? My 2003 S55 with only 5000 miles died on me an hour ago. I was driving in a parking garage trying to find a parking space when suddenly the car just stalled! I was completely surprised! I restarted the car and drove some more and it stalled again! I was scared now and decided to drive home and pick up another car. Guess what? I was right outside the Mercedes Benz dealership when my car goes completely dead! I start up the car and within 10 seconds, the car stalls! WTF! I called up my dad and friend and we ended up pushing the car into the Mercedes Benz parking lot. Lefted a note and left. Wow, after my ML55 and this incident, I have to say Mercedes Benz quality is really not what it use to be. My 1996 S320 never had any problems. This sucks! My ML55 is still in for service after being there for 18 days, the hose is on back order and I still havent' gotten my car back. Now my S55 has to go in and who knows how long before they fix this car. This sucks!

buddy,
I feel your pain. I have 2002 S500 and in a year, they told me my brakes were spent. My horn broke.........My gps antenna CRACKED from teh ice weather (i had to pay for a new one) my seat track cracked......... my seat massager stopped massaging.....etc etc etc....
Talk about quality control issues......... mercedes needs to tell their accountants (who now run the company) to sod off because when the engineers ran the company, these problems didnt exist!!!!!!
Sorry to here about your troubles with the S55. Give us an update when you know what happened. By 2003 MBZ should have had all the issues with the 220 sorted out. If not, there's no excuse on their part. As for myself, my 2001 S is new to the garage. If it turns into troubled piece of junk, then it's gone and off to a Porsche or BMW. In Sales, everyone knows that one pissed off customer will destroy the goodwill a hundred satisified customers create.
sadly, i have to agree with you. It is amazing that they can charge all this money and even mor so that people will pay for it. Why cant mercedes just make a fantastic car for all this money? Last time i checked, Chanel still produced high quality clothing to explain their high costing garments.
Will Mercedes change their tune with the W221?
What a downgrade it would be in performance if you got an automatic 240D with all 67 bhp. Just think though, you could drive on the highway, all day long with your foot stuck to the floor and not have to really worry about cops too much as opposed to barely touching the S55 Kompressor's gas pedal![:D] On top of that, you'd get yourself an engine that is one of the easiest engines made to work on, and will last nearly a million miles if you take care of it and drive it often and hard.
An MB diesel, unlike most gassers, LOVES to be thrashed EVERY DAY of its LIFE. The more you push it, the better it will run.[:D]
I heard the W221s were supposed to have turbos on all engines. I think quality will pick up, they've had a nasty shock with the W220, but I dont think it will be as good as the W140.

I've got to tell you guys. The Maybach brand might as well be the S-Class brand.
If you've seen pictures of the new W221, you'll think they were spy shots of a old 7-series. The photos came from very accurate sources so they must be relatively close.
If you look at the wood, it looks like its made out of plastic completely(especially under the armrest area). The shifter positioned on the steering wheel is a Chrysler design, and the doors look American as well.
The new engines sport revised 4 valve per cylinder technology again, and I think but a bump up in displacement. I never heard of extra turbos(though maybe in the future). The next generation AMG models should be NA.
Knowing Mercedes so far, usually they don't screw up on engines. Just everything else around it sometimes.
The M113 produces 302 bhp, while the 560 version of the 117 produces 238. Even though 560's in Europe could produce up to 300 hp, they still had a larger displacement than the 3-valver.
You must be talking about the M119. Yep, the new V-engines were a slight step down in power compared to the previous generation. But they became lighter, had better emissions, and were much less costly to produce.
