I have heard they work better than any other detector, they have arrows pointing to it, and the band. And yes, a kid probably could install it. They might need some help if your trying to mount it in the lower bumper grille, which i highly recommend to conceal the device, because they might be illegal in some states.
I've got one in every car. they have paid for themselves many times over. I had passports, Escorts, Bel and others but none compare to V1. On two different caravan trips (3 Suburban type vehicles) to Tahoe from the Bay Area, I learned how good they were compared to my Passport.
On Highway 99 at about 90MPH with very light traffic my Passport picked up a bogey at the same time the other trucks with V1s did. We slowed down and passed a patrol car on the shoulder, the Passport still screaming. I accellerated back up to cruising speed and guess what was waiting for me .25 miles up? Another patrol car. A lot of fast talking and name dropping saved my butt from a ticket. If I had a V1, I would have known about the other patrol car. My companions knew he was there and boy did they rub it in!
Highway 50 near Placerville was the sight of another head to head comparison. Same group of vehicles traveling nose to tail at about 85MPH with me in the lead. My buddies back off and call me on the radio to tell me there is a bogey ahead. My Passport was still dead silent after their V1s were barking like mad. Another .25 mile later and the Passport finaly picks up a faint signal. Luckily, the bogey was still another .5 mile away.
I was on the phone in minutes with Valentine and had one overnight shipped to me for the trip back home. Since then, I have installed 5 more in my vehicles.
Thanks for the quick responses! You guys are great.
My one concern is that I will have to hang it in the window and have the damn phone like cord sticking straight up from the ciggerete lighter to the window. I imagine it will be a big pain in the butt to have that cord in my direct view of the road / radio / AC controls.
Can I bring it to mercedes and have them professionally install it into my electrical system or is it not possible? I want everything to be concealed except for the unit (of course)
HEHE. I know what you mean. Stealers sell you a car but then when service time comes around, they dont want to know from you. Funny enough, they promised they'd have a mercedes loaner car for me when my car was due for service............... i got a chevy impala from them. How's that downgrade from an S500.
I will a local electronics and car audio company do it. It doesnt void the warranty? You know, for messing with the electronics?
I put my detector above and left of the rear view mirror. It seems to be picking up bogeys without any problem. Are the S Class (2003) windscreens metalicly coated somehow?
WHERE ON THE W/S CAN I MOUNT THE UNIT? WHERE IS THE LOCATION IT IS MEANT TO GO. DO YOU RECOMMEND PUTTING IT INTO THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM? HAVE YOU EVER DONE IT BEFORE?
