Question on adding Comand Nav please

Hi,

I have just purchased a 2006/55 Mercedes CLS 320 CDi, and love every bit of it.....

But, unfortunately, I jumped in to buying one without a Comand unit (just the standard Radio/CD in the head unit).

I am itching to purchase a W219 Comand head unit from eBay and give it a go.....My questions are this:

1/ How much should I be looking to pay? There are one or two units on eBay now for around £350 or best offer, but they are not UK sellers, and I am always wary of that.

2/ Is it easy to fit? They are claiming that it's plug and play, and then just connect the GPS antenna and you are away. Is this true?

Many thanks for your help

Much appreciated

Kindest Regards,

Mike.

I've been looking on ebay at something like this:

Mercedes Benz MB Comand E-Class W211 CLS /Navigation on eBay (end time 20-Oct-09 13:30:55 BST)

The guy has replied and said I need a separate Nav unit to go with it (obviously not hard disc based)

Just wondering.....What would work, without the Nav unit plugged in (IE, audio/telephone etc).

Is it something the average Joe could attempt to do?

Retrofit Comand

OK, guessing it's quiet on here today....But

after further research, I have managed to find out

Don't go for older DVD based system with separate nav unit as it will require a whole host of newbies.

I have been recommended to get:

Newer NTG 2.5 HDD based system
Wiring Loom
GPS Antenna

I have been looking on ebay and have found:

Mercedes W211 E ,W219 CLS DVD Sat Nav MP3 HDD NTG 2.5 on eBay (end time 01-Oct-09 19:58:19 BST)

Can anybody advise if this is all I will need, and does anyone have experience with this seller (long shot).

£800 seems like a good price for what I am looking for?

Thanks again....

Hi Mike. In case of problems I'd like to find easely my reference. So I always thought to have services on site. But, before you choose your preferred Nav system, I invite you to this discussion
http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w219...av-system.html
and to consider Becker,VDO, Pioneer systems. Ask these to your local dealer
and ask details about installation. By the way, if you by a nav on e-bay who will install it on your car and with which level of responsibility?
Ciao
