We picked up our CLS at the factory on March 17th and dropped it off in Paris on March 26th -- put about 1600 miles on it in Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, and France, with an average gas mileage of 24.2 for ten days (highest price for gas was in the Netherlands -- $140 for a fill-up at $9.50 per gallon!!). Recently we drove to Reno (roundtrip of about 600 miles) with gas mileage at 26.2 -- best was 27.2 for about twenty miles of freeway driving at 75 mph. In my daily commute (country roads and freeway, about 25 miles roundtrip) I'm getting between 21 and 22....

I assume you are using the trip computer. Doesn't sound like your are doing total tank mileage (miles traveled / gallons pumped in to fill) at time of fillup.

My experience with trip computers is that they always show an optimistic number when you compare it to actual mileage. Have not checked my CLS 550 numbers yet but on a recent road trip to Phoenix and back from Orange County computer showed 24.3 each way. Usually around 15 in town.

Agreed, too often people cherry-pick the best mileage numbers they see on their computer. Best way to check mileage is after burning a full tank.
if im really trying to get good gas mileage i get around 17 to 20 but on average id say 14 to 15...but i recently put an exhaust system on so im sure thats not helping at all

Exhaust system shouldn't hurt mileage, unless you floor it all the time to hear the sound.
