It was a while ago when I took that pic. but I think I was going local for a while then hopped on the freeway. I was doing 70-75 most of the time when I got that 26 mpg and had to slow down just to take a pic. with my cell phone. 26 mpg isn't common on the 550, I usually get 22-24 other times on the freeway.

Thanks, based on your data and the 08 EPA ratings, the mileage is about the same as my 06ML350 w/3.5L V6. Not bad considering the V8 power.

I was just kidding around. Should've added one of those smilies to the end but I think they're goofy. If I reset the mpg calculator while on the highway, and I stay on the highway, I can get 27.5 mpg going 70. Around town, 17.

The car usually gets around 19 city and as high 25.1 highway. Highway driving is usually done at around 80-90 mph for around 800 miles at a time stopping only to refuel.

And what kind of gas mileage at those speeds? (which aren't that uncommon in central California)
The best we've seen is 25.1 mpg doing 80-82 mph (on cruise control).
80-90 mph is a common flow of traffic speed on the I-10. The posted speed limit on the I-10 heading west from El Paso is for the most part 75 mph (until you hit CA, then it slows to 70), so most people are doing between 80 and 85 mph. The posted speed limit on the I-10 heading east from El Paso is 80 mph with a flow of traffic speed between 85 and 90 mph.
