I bought a brand new "08 CLS 550 Diamond White and I had issues with smoke coming out of the exhaust when I crank the car up. I also had the oil sensor come on stating the check oil level. I had to add 1 Quart of oil to the car, but the manual states that it is not uncommon. However, the sensor came back on about a week later and I had to add two more quarts. I took the car back to the dealer yesterday and they put new oil, filter and seal in the car and are performing an oil test. I have to drive the car for 621 miles and then they will weigh the oil in the car. They state that the smoking exhaust is not uncommon. Does anyone else have any problems like this? I didn't pay this much for a car to smoke when I crank it up. I never had these issues with my Lexus. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I have the '07 550 and the only time I saw smoke coming out was a day after I washed my car and I was thinking may be water got inside the exhaust? Other than that no smoke comes out when I start.
I've never had to add any engine oil myself... 15,000 miles right now. No problems with the car whatsoever. Good luck with your car.
I have an 08 CLS with about 10K miles on it and I have never seen any heavy smoke from the exhaust. Seems to me a new car smoking like you say is "uncommon". Good luck with the fix.
