Trade in for 996TT for 2007 MB CLS63 AMG?
I have an opportunity to trade my 2001 Porsche 996TT with 18,000 miles for a 2007 CLS63 AMG with 7,500 miles..."even Steven." Both vehicles are in pristine condition.
Porsche's are great cars! i don't know the speed of your porsche, but i know you will not be let down with the power of the CLS. it wont have the feel necessarily of a small coupe, but its not far off. just our normal CLS550 feels great and drives like a sports car coupe. You will not be let down with the Mercedes. plus then 2 more people can have fun!

Well the 996TT is a blast to drive. 0-60 in the 4.0-4.2ish range depending on the driver. The reasons I'm interested in the CLS63 are the creature comforts, the added room (although the 996 does have two rear jumper seats), but definitely two completely different animals. When I drove the 63, I was definitely impressed.
Sounds to good to be true, your 01 TT is worth low to mid 50's, 07 63 worth high 60's to low 70's. I'd take the deal and run, be sure the 63 has not been in accident.

I agree, maybe a PPI (pre-purchase inspection) by a trusted mechanic makes sense.

I realize that the CLS is currently worth more than the Porsche which is why I've been seriously entertaining the idea, however I've been told by several that that may not be the case going forward. Estimations have said that by 2012 when the CLS is five years old that it will be worth $40K or less, while the Porsche, since it has suffered the bulk of its depreciation, will likely be worth more. It's a gamble either way, unless I take the CLS and sell it immediately.
The CLS is owned by a friend whom is simply quite enamoured with the Porsche. The CLS is near perfect.
I had a 996 gt3 as a daily driver prior to switching to my cls55 for a daily driver. the main difference is comfort. whereas the 996 is well made, it has its rattles, the car is stiff (i'm sure the turbo is a little more forgiving), there are many more amenities in the cls, and you don't have to bend down to get in and out of the car each time. also, the trunk is actually usable (i.e. you don' thave to use the back seats of your 996 to put in your golf clubs), btw, the gt3 doesn't have back seats but the space back there is roughly the same as yours.
other thing is the noise factor. there's the fun of driving the porsche at WOT on the highway. but do you really enjoy the growling sound and foot aches(clutch) each time you're stuck in traffic having to shift between first and second and first and second and if you're lucky into third.
unless you got the x50 package, i would think that you will definitely not feel disappointed in the 07 cls63. it's bad as shi t . . . in a good way. i'll always miss my poursha, but if it's you're daily driver, i'd go with the cls all the way anyday. hope this helps
