that would settle everything, except that the "c" class would then have to be a class full of coupes -- and as we all know, the "c" class consists of a bunch of sedans.

Body
C = Coupé
T = Transport & Touristik (Kombi) Station wagon
K = Kurz (kurzer oder verkürzter Radstand) = Short wheel base

then y are they calling 4 door sedan C230, C320, c300, and c350 a Coupe??

These are just terms that work for some or most of the range. It does not apply to all models.

same here, 70% of people assume its a c class, then when they see the car their jaws drop... that's satisfying enough....

I've never heard of this confusion between the C class and the ClS that you all speak about.
If thats the case, is the CL mixed in with all the confusion ?

It starts with a C, lol.

For all we know, the arrangement of letters for the names of these cars mean nothing, but there is no confusion between these cars.

if it start with C, people assume it' a C class!
not everybody know about cars!
just cus my C320 coupe looks like a C230, lots of people asking me, "how is your c230?", "are u the one driving a c230"
i dont got a c230, i got a c320!!

another example.
if BMW made a car calls "370" based on 7 series, people will assume it' a 3 series, cus it' start with a 3!

this is a better meaning for mercedes!
C = cheap
E = expensive
S = safety

just to let u know that letter C dosnt make high end mercs in the same catagory as c class. if that was the case then CL65 amg is $195k and competes with bently and meserati. so do u think CL is also a C class? hahaha

The BMW example makes no sense at all. If it started with a 3, then it IS a 3-Series because that's how BMW nomenclature works. BMW doesn't have any models with several starting numbers to indicate the model and then the next two numbers for the trim/engine level.

You're using an orange to describe an apple.
