Greetings all - I'm looking to get my hands on a used CLS and have some questions about these two model years.
I know that the 550 is a much better engine than the 500. I am not aware of any reliability differences between these two years, but since 2006 was the first year for this model I worry that there may be issues with the CLS500. Are there any major differences in the options offered (can I get Bluetooth, keyless operation, and an auxiliary audio input in the 500?)?
The prices for the 550s and 500s seem to be all over the place - I've seen 2007 550s listed from 70,000 all the way down to 60,000 (with similar features/miles) and a similarly large price range with the 500. What are good prices for certified pre owned? And since I've never owned an M-B before, and don't plan on owning the vehicle for long, would it matter much I buy certified pre owned or not? I'm leaning towards getting a CPO car, but don't know what kind of premium this commands over the rest of the market.
All in all, this seems like a great car. The interior is wonderful and new looking, love the coupe like layout, although I will admit to some reservations over the aggressively styled exterior. I definitely like the looks more than the E class, though.

I bought my CPO cls 550 in January from a dealer. It was an '07 with P2 package, AMG package, bluetooth, and ipod kit with 7500 miles on it used by an executive for MB. Aside from a small ding in the rear pillar, the car is flawless. The dealer had many '08s in the showroom so they negotiated a price of 62k. I probably could have done a better from a none dealer but I wanted the extra warranty time with the CPO, and they gave me a good deal on a trade-in. I test drove a cls500 and a cls 55 from the same dealer at the time. Hands down, the 550 is a better engine than the 500. I thought the 500 felt sluggish and underpowered in comparison to the 550. The cls 55 was brilliant, but another 10K in price. You can also negotiate some add-ons from the delaer. My car did not have the bluetooth unit which they installed gratis. I am very pleased with the car and nothing else looks like it on the road. I needed a car with some looks for my line of work, and this fits in just fine with the Bentleys and Ferraris, for under 70K.
