Exclamation Tire Pressure Sensors & Aftermarket Rims

I've got a 2007 CLS 550. I've recently upgraded the rims to Vossen 20 inch. These rims did not come with a TPMS interface. I was told that I could migrate the TPMS from my stock wheels to the new ones.

Mercedes told me that they can't do this because of the way the stock TPMS are integrated into the original wheels. Does anyone know if and where I can purchase an adaptor or at least a TPMS that would be compatible?

The sensor warning is driving me crazy!!! MB informed me that because TPMS is a safety feature, it can't be turned off.

Thanks!!!

ps - I did look for an answer for this on the forum, but could not find one. So please don't blast me if I've overlooked an existing thread!

The TPMS sensors are not integrated into the wheels, you could switch them to the new wheels if you want (as long as the new wheels can accept a valve mounted sensor). If you do switch the old sensors you'll need to buy new valve stem assemblies for the sensor, since the assemblies are meant to be one time use only. I think I was quoted $25/assembly from the dealer. When I put the Kleemann wheels on my wife's CLS I bought a new set of complete sensors, just so I could easily switch the OEM wheels back for winter.

Here's where I bought the sensors w/valves. (This guy also has just valve assemblies as well). eBay Motors: Mercedes TPMS Tire Sensor Fits OEM #SE58001 - 315 Mhz (item 140197005930 end time May-07-08 11:28:07 PDT)

It seemed like the price was to good to be true considering the dealer wanted $250/sensor and the next cheapest place I found was for $179.00. But they've worked just fine. Once installed, the car accepted them with no codes. I just did the reset procedure listed in the manual to give the sensor a new baseline.

I bought those from ebay. They work great! But I guess my wheels (Asanti's) couldn't fit them with the vertical mount. The wheel place had to drill holes through the back side of the wheel to have them fit ($100). So now I have 2 value steam on my wheels. Since they are in the back of the wheels I would just use the noraml place to fill them up with air, with just a normal vaule steam. I'm guessing my Asanti warranty is probably shot, but it's better than the stupid alarm..

What makes the assemblies one time use only? And how do you know if your wheel accepts the sensors or not? I just bought a set of Renntech 20's for my '08 CLS and wondering what I need to do to get them on without error lights.

To be clear, it's only the $10.00 valve assembly that's "one-time" use only. The actual TPMS sensor is good to use as many times as you want until the battery in it dies. Once the sensors are in the wheels the car will automatically detect the sensors. You will just need to make sure the tires are inflated to where you want them and then do a TPMS reset according to the owner's guide, to give the system a new baseline.

The valve maker requires that the valve assembly be used only once do to the way the gasket on it is sealed to the wheel by way of a "crush-collar". Once pressure has been released, the gasket may not seal properly again.

As for whether or not your new wheels will accept the OEM sensor, the best way to find-out is to ask the wheel dealer or contact Renntech. Given that Renntech is MB specific, I can't imagine the wheels wouldn't accept the sensor.
