I have a 07 CLS 550. The other day had the opportunity of driving a CLS63. Here are my brief impressions.
1. Excellent suspension and steering feel. Supple yet taut. I wish CLS 550 would have a tighter feel.
2. Exhaust note brings out the Adrenaline, don't know how it would be as a daily driver though.
3. Acceleration from stop is not what I expected. It takes a little time to build up revs and then shoots forward. Acceleration when the car is already moving is quite excellent. Power is quite endless. The Steering mounted shifters actually work (very quick response)
63 feel heavy off the line, where as the 550 feel light and more on it's toes. 550 almost feels faster. I am beginning to believe the 0-60 of 4.7 by Car and Driver for the 550.
4. Exterior without significant differetiation on the 63.
5. I was not able to significantly spin the wheels even with ESP off!
5. If I want something faster than my current 550, I'd probably think of a true sports car ie 911, R8 etc.

CLS 55 AND CLS 63 ARE WAY MORE POWERFUL THAN A 550. BUT I RATHER HAVE A 550 CAR PAYMENT !!! . YOU SHOULD HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH LAUNCHING THE 63, IS A FREAKING MONSTER !!!!!
LMAO... You are really delusional if you think the 550 measures up to a 55 or 63 under any terms, be it refinement, control, feel, performance, prestige...

Just my 2 cents.

550 DOES FEEL A LITTLE LIGHTER but speedwise theres nothing close about the two cars. The 63 is not a simple push and go car like the 55. With the right driver behind the wheel, accelaration from 0 or from a roll is ONE VICIOUS PIECE OF MACHINERY.
AND If u want a sports car then why the hell would u get a four door.????????????????
the acceleration is not violent, but a lot of that is the traction control system doing it's work. If you drive an M5 or RS6 you will notice the same sensation. Also, and this is just a guess on my part, I think the E63 is programmed more aggressively even though it's the same engine and drivetrain. At any rate, while it doesn't feel fast off the line, it most certainly is.
On a related note, I was having breakfast at Alice's (if you are from the Bay Area and into motorcycles you will know it) on Sunday and a Carrera GT pulled out of the parking and hammered it. That car sounded and accelerated like a formula one car. Simply jaw dropping.

Exremely quick shifting and you do have a pause, but it is more like you pulled the rubber band back an let it go.
Whereas the M5 had way too much pausing in between gears and was definitely slower.

I hit 3.9 with mine and the gtimer. In real world, it is just a second, so you can literally run with almost anything given a second. I had a blast the other day with (3) M3's flying around in my rearview. When we started I could not pass any of the three, I was stuck, I had to tell them at a light, that I had to wait behind them. Then they let me get in front. It was still a lot of fun, even though they could not match me in anything.

This is the largest problem, I have with ESP ON, you cant make a U, you can't make turns without flipping the back out, unless you are very soft. I had a day where it was misting, not even a drizzle yet and I had my tail go sideways in a straight lineupon hitting 2nd. I call the ESP button "HELL" Without it, I can simply light up all day and night. It is extreme power.
5. If I want something faster than my current 550, I'd probably think of a true sports car ie 911, R8 etc.
Neither of these will come near the 63, it will take a Turbo for that and they better switch gears like a pro, otherwise they are cooked.
My 63, pulls just as hard from 0-80 as it does from 120 - 190 where my limiter kicks in. The other day, I hit 155-165 coming out of 5th gear. Yes, I brought it to the limit and pulled 193 by time my limiter really kicked in.
Just my 2 cents.

Hope that helps to clear up your decision, but in the end I think you will be happy, as the 550 is fast and 40-50k more for the 030 AMG, is a lot!
