You guys noticed that the 06 and 07 CLS have different front brakes. Anyone knows more about them? Thanks.
I was under the impression that MB dumped the problematic Bosch Sensotronic system that was in the 2006 model and went back to good 'ol hydraulics for '07.
Talking about brakes, I have noticed the car would roll back when it's on a slope. In the '06's they had the brake assist thing where you step on it hard enough for a few secs it won't roll back but in the '07's they took out that feature? I read the manual and it says nothing on that and tried it on a slope stepping it hard but still nothing happened....

one more time, the '06 had the Senstronic system where an ECU determined how much pressure to apply rather than your foot. The system featured a high pressure pump and an always-on approach to brake line pressure whereby the lines were constantly charged and the ECU activated the pads. Unfortunately, leaks and bubbles led MB to abandon the system this year. It's not so much a case of MB removing the feature you are missing but rather removing the entire subsystem that provided the feature... personally, I'm okay with that approach because having a fully functioning and reliable brake system is more important to me than stopping roll backs on a hill.
Besides all that, I grew up in the hills of Northern California and I can drop my foot from the brake and clutch out like I had a third foot.
Actually that anti-rollback feature has always been on every MB I have driven, C, E and S class. Even on 20 yr. old MB's it wouldn't roll back even on the steepest slope. I am quite surprised they took that feature out of the '07 CLS. I tried both C/S mode but still rolled back. On older MB's when you put it on S it would roll back but not on W. But I have to say the brakes in the '07 CLS is so good and I always feel safe and in control

Interesting to hear all your comments on braking, particularly that the latest models have a different system.
My October 2005 (06 model) CLS 500 had an SBC hold problem and I was made to feel like the only guy on the planet who was unable to make it work consistantly by the dealer.
The vehicle went in for adjustment at 1000 miles and came out slightly better, but I was never happy with the SBC function. I asked what was wrong with the old, well tried system of yester-year that never rolled back, for me, on hills anyway. The dealer said that the old (conventional systems) did sometimes roll back, so SBC was supposed to be a state of the art improvement.
I disagree and now it has been abandoned, has it ??!!
Do you think I should ask for this important modification to be fitted free of charge after my one year of ownership, or are MB going to re-call all 2005-6 cars to install the latest system anyway?.
Like to know your views on this before I take the matter up with my dealer.
interesting, I never even noticed that feature on earlier models. You sure it was something in the brake system and not the transmission?
May be is the transmission and not the brake system. I don't know but all the MB's I have had in the past never rolled back, and when they had the SBC they had that feature on the brake system. But the '07 CLS....the newest and improved in so many ways....roll back on slopes! I just don't get it, not making sense at all to me why that feature is not there?
BeeJay, yes no more SBC on the 07's. I don't think MB is going to recall all the cars with SBC. They will just keep fixing it when it's not doing the job right. It'll cost them $$$$$ to do a recall like that. Think of it this way, at least yours won't roll back when it's working right
