AI Design unveiled this custom 2006 Mercedes CLS 55, created for DC Shoes Co-Founder, Ken Block. They began by upgrading the heart of the CLS 55 using Brabus K8 engine tuning components yielding 575 bhp.
The Brabus electronic suspension lowering module was combined with Michelin Pilot Sport 2 tyres wrapped around Radenergie R10 20-inch wheels and the result was a dramatically enhanced handling.
All the body panels were painted into a matte black and in contrast, the chrome trim has been finished in a glossy piano black, giving the sleek saloon an almost menacing appearance. Tail and side marker lamps have all been tinted. The front bumper, carbon fibre grill, vented bonnet (used to keep the tweaked power-plant cool), side skirt panels, and boot lid spoiler are all from Brabus.
Flat black is the new black... a lot of hot rods and custom motorcycles are dressing themselves in flat black and minimal chrome. I think it's an extension of the retro hod rodder theme that has been going on for a few years. I'd like to see a mfg come out with this, I would seriously consider it as a premium special order paint option.
