CLS In the snow

I mentioned this in another thread but thought it more appropriate to start a unique thread.

I live in Denver. Last winter was very very mild. The city seems to do a great job of clearing out the major roads whenever there's a snow. I don't have very far to go in order to get out to a major road so I think I'm good to go in that respect.

That being said, when there is snow, how does the CLS handle? I've heard reports of the Lexus SC-430 being horrible in the snow (and at the same time I've heard people say it's fine with snow tires) and, if I was to get a CLS, I would most certainly get snow tires. The reports about the Lexus make me wary of RWD cars for sure.

Anyone have any experience with this car in the snow, and, what's your opinion? Should I break down and just get an E-550 4MATIC instead?

Yeh your right, the CLS is crappy in Snow. I stay in North of Scotland and we tend to get alot up here aswell.

I actually considered purchasing a used beaten up 4x4 for the winter...but i purchased a set of Winter Tyres and plunked them onto the 19" AMG's

With the correct tyres for the correct season on the car, all i can say is the CLS handles great. Probably better than a beaten up 4x4 i would have bought, well ok maybe not but its good.

That's the answer I was looking for. I figure I can put snow tires on the car from say, Nov or Dec thru March and I'll be pretty well off.

Perhaps put a couple sand bags in the trunk for days where there's already snow on the ground.

Anyone else have any thoughts/experiences? Should I just get an E550 and settle for (excuse me, but) boring looks?

I have 17" wheels, and bought winter tyres 245 45 R17 XL Michelin Pilot Alpin PA2. Car handels very well in snow. No problems at all and much quicker then most of other cars. Friend's BMW 530d handels much worse in snow conditions.

exhaust modification on a cls 320 CDI

Here is the exhaust modification,
one hour long
in the exhaust box delivery you have stickers that shows you where to cut the back bumper.
when cut you take you the exhaust line and cut the pipe. you have to be carefull and mesure the exhaust

Abe; I'm sure the free-er flowing exhaust melts any snow in the area.

Ok, I'm confused too, but I still liked the pics. Sweet looking job.

Hey croaker, you're in Denver too! How's the CLS working out for you? Think it'll be a problem this winter?

We've also got a C230; I'm planning on swapping the wheels and tires for a winter setup, and leaving the CLS in the garage most of the winter...
