Great article....Just ordered my 2007 CLS63, cannot wait for the arrival....One question my existing CLS55 has 516 pound ft , the new CLS63 has 465 ? Will that mean the car has less acceleration ? Maybe a silly question, but was curious ..Why the difference ?

Thanks

Steve

Mercedes has it .2 seconds quicker to 100kmh than the CLS55.
More horsepower, higher revving, and a new 7 speed gearbox with paddles will more than make up for the lower torque.
465 ft lbs is still huge (i believe an E60 M5 only has 385 ft lbs)

I too have ordered a 2007 CLS63. I'm suppose to take delivery at the end of August or beginning of September. My 2006 CLS55 is great in every respect except the transmission. I came from an E46 M3 with SMG and miss the higher rpm paddle shifting. So hopefully this new Mercedes will eliminate my one gripe.

Congrats guys. What is the price of the CLS63. I'm thinking about getting one also. I'm assuming $10 to $15k over the CLS55, so maybe $100 to $110K for the CLS63. Thoughts?

The stated torque of the CLS63 is 465 lb-ft at 5,200 RPM. This is less then the 55 engine, but I believe the 63 enigne would be more controllable then the 55, not to mention that I believe the 63 is lighter then the 55. At any rate most people seem to love the engine. Metalco, I am willing to assume that you do not live in the United States. In the United States we use lb-ft (pound per foot) to measure torque, Europe and other places use NM (Newton Meter) to measure torque. If you convert 465 lb-ft to NM it is 630 NM of torque. Now the old CLS55 AMG engine made 516 lb-ft of torque, that is the same as 700 NM of torque. The difference is that the new 63 engine is a true race bred engine and loves to be in higher RPMs and can be controlled better for a more rewarding experiece, the 55 was more like a brute, it did well, but it wasn't nearly as refined.

I just went over to my benz dealership yesterday and I asked about the E63-ML63 and CLS63 and they told me that they'll be arriving next year and there is no waiting list for it over here.. and well, I wanted one so badly but he told me the prices are not out yet!! Interesting.. other than that I checked on the S65 and he gave me a price tag of around 250,000$..those bastards are a rip off.. I got a much more cheaper price at the dealership in United Arab of Emirates.

Your cars are cheaper and your petrol is expensive. Our cars are expensive and our petrol is cheaper!

Good luck with ur rides, fellaaas!

Hi,
you assumption is close. Well, I am originally from Munich Germany, (BMW Town). I didn't actually mean metric nm. I simply goofed and got the numbers wrong. I just had my 63 against a 55. I is only slightly faster by numbers but since the power comes up more linear, I had the nose ahead from the get go.
Its just a very different engine from the 55. But, don't get me wrong. The 55 is still great and actually feels almost a but wilder than my 63. But... drive it and get it up to 4000rpm. It gets there fast and than it gets really GREAT.

Thanks for pointing out my mistake. My driving experience is simply my personal opinion. After all , I had the car for only 4 days now.

Where are you located??? $ 250,000.-- ?!?!?!.
I got mine and there was NO wait. I could have gotten another one with different options within about 3-4 days.
I paid just a few bucks below sticker. Sticker was about $US 98,000 .
The car is worth that. But it is NOT worth $ 250,000.

I think he was talking about the S65 for $250,000 and not the CLS 63.
