As I understand it, Clarkson is now rich enough to drive anything on wheels and, as you rightly say, happens to own an SL55 AMG.

He appears to have become seriously rich because he tells it how it is and that's unusual but nice.

On the question of bias:-

In the past he has been critical of the fact that, here in the UK (which is known as "Treasure Island" in the motor trade), you pay the equiv. of 175,000 US dollars for a SL55 AMG but only 91,000 dollars for an SLK55 AMG and the CLS55 AMG now weighs in quite fairly, by comparison, at 127,000 dollars.

Don't think there is any bias there really, but the SL price does seem a bit over the top for what you get for the money!
