hey is it true that the wood grain steering wheel and shift knob is not available on the CLS500? i'm about to order one and the salesman at mercedes said he thought it was but then the parts department said that it wasn't. he is looking into it for me. on mbusa.com, when you build one there's a woodgrain package shown but the thing is when you select the AMG sport package it deselects that option and I want the AMG sport pacakge. not sure why it doesn't allow you to select but then when I go to a site like autos.yahoo.com it allows me to select both packages. I have noticed pics of CLS350 with the woodgrain steering wheel/shift knob but no CLS500, especially ones with the AMG sport package. any ideas??? that should be automatic thing on a $75k+ car since all the other models have it.
I've seen the wood grain wheel and shifter in a few CLS500s, so they are available. My guess is that since you selected the AMG option (which then gives you the shift buttons integrated in the steering wheel) it may not be possible to have both. A wooden steering wheel seems like a "luxury" car feature and "high performance" cars usually have leather (or alcantara) wheels. So it might just be optioned that way in keeping with the AMG high performance image.
It only cost an extra £440 incl. tax in the UK ( = US $792 )
I'm still saving for the wooden gear knob. Maybe one day ehh.
Can't see why you can't have both if specified.
Tell you something though. They may look great but they are a bit slippery to handle compared to the all leather steering wheel fitted standard at no extra cost. However, a car this good deserves to be pampered.
Brabus told me they would put together a wood grain wheel, the wood and the new paddle style shifters like Ferrari and BMtroubleU. The best feeling, proper gripping wheel I've ever felt, and the shifting paddles are the coolist!!
