RE: CLS500 Transmission problems anyone?

i purchased a cls,had the same or similar problem, and suddenly the engine would jolt burning rubber without acceleration, the car was at the dealer every other week, for almost 2 months, they found low tranny oil, replaced it,re-set the computer, and it will do it again,I called M/B headquarters, and they gave me a new replacement car,the new one has been problem free, but,I went thru hell with the dealer.Do not let these people take you for a ride call up M/B headquarters, stay on them and demand a different car.

RE: CLS500 Transmission problems anyone?

TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS??? ABSOLUTELY!!! PURCHASED A NEW 2006 CLS500 IN AUGUST-BEAUTIFUL LOOKING CAR WITH ALL THE FEATURES YOU COULD POSSIBLY WANT. SINCE THE DAY I HAD PICKED UP MY NEW CAR THE TRANSMISSION WAS JERKING, AT FIRST I THOUGHT SINCE IT WAS A NEW CAR THAT THIS MAY BE NORMAL-BROUGHT IN MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP, I WAS TOLD THE FLUID WAS LOW AND THE ONLY WAY TO DETECT WAS THRU A COMPUTER TEST-WAS FINALLY TOLD THE FLUID WAS LOW AND THE PROBLEM SHOULD BE SOLVED. LO AND BEHOLD I BROUGHT IN MY CAR FOR THE SAME PROBLEM AT LEAST 5 TIMES AFTER-AT THIS POINT MY CAR WAS IN THE DEALERSHIP MORE THAN NOT. BY THIS POINT I WAS QUITE FRUSTRATED AND TOOK A STRONGER ACTION-I CALLED MB OF NORTH AMERICA AND STARTED TO COMPLAIN-STAYED ON TOP ON THE SITUATION AND SURE ENOUGH THERE WAS A SERIOUS PROBLEM WITH MY NEW CAR-I CONTINUED TO CORRESPOND WITH MB OF NORTH AMERICA UNTIL I GOT THE RESULTS I WANTED------A NEW CAR----I KNOW AM THE PROUD AND QUITE SATISFIED OWNER OF A NEW CLS55 AND I COULD NOT BE HAPPIER---YES, THERE IS PROBLEMS WITH CLS500 TRANSMISSIONS AND THERE ARE SOLUTIONS---HOPE THIS HELPS[:D]

RE: CLS500 Transmission problems anyone?

My CLS 320 cdi is the same and with the superchip fitted, it struggles to find adequate gears. Is it just because i opted for the paddle shift gear option?[?][?][?]

I had a 2006 ML with 7 speed for 6 months, and traded it with MB, or they were due in court. I got a E350 4matic, 5 speed transmission. When you see all the 7's failing, you have to go with the old tech. The 5 speed 4matic with the new V6 is fine, plenty of power in C and great in S if I want to beat up a high school kid with his Honda and a big pipe.... LOL

My advice, stay away from the 7 speed for as long as possibe, although by that time we will see a 9-10 speed since lexus is going to up numbers this coming model year.

RE: CLS500 Transmission problems anyone?

What was the recorded mileage and age when they gave you a brand new car?

Did you have to pay extra for the 55??

Are all these 7 speed transmission problems electrical rather than mechanical?

My 7 speed has eventually settled down OK at 3000 miles, but you always wonder for how long!!!!!

If you are making ref. to me, I got a E350 and I did have to pay the difference, but at invoice.

I had 8500 miles approx, and yes the E350 wagon 4matic is brand new.

From what I hear, the problem with the 7 speed is both
mechanical and electrical.

RE: CLS500 Transmission problems anyone?

Since I purchased my CLS500 in January, I have also had problems with the transmission. It intermittently downshifts with a substantial jerk between 7-10 mph. It seems to occur more frequently when it is cold outside and when the vehicle is cold. It has now been at the dealership for 8 days in the last two weeks, and they are no closer to a solution. (Of course, they say that they can't duplicate the problem). Initially, they reprogrammed the adaptive transmission and put more transmission fluid in it with absolutely no change in performance. Now MB tech support is telling them to put a new transmission 1st generation valve body cover on it. I am not overly optimistic. If ANYONE has had any luck with some kind of solution, I would greatly appreciate it. Since this is my first MB (after 4 Lexus vehicles), I am beginning to wonder if I have made a terrible mistake.

Hey peds doc, I went though the same issue with my ML. They could never duplicate the problem, and then they would say it was because of the cold, hot and it was learning the way I drive.... All BS if you ask me.

Make sure you keep a record of all this and dates. I took a lot to get MB to realize I was not joking. As sad as it is, letters after the name matters.

I told them as first my issues w/o using MD, PhD. I never got an answer back. When I told them I was being asked daily at the hospital how i liked my ML and then singed my email/letters MD, PhD I got calls in the matters of 30min.

RE: CLS500 Transmission problems anyone?

@endodoc... No, I was asking CLS55NY about his CLS55 replacement, but, I appreciate your reply because it is still relevant in every way. Thanks.

Seems like "letters" after your name carry some weight with MB!! Well done!
Over here you can buy a "knighthood" if you make a Company donation (with your shareholders money) to the Party in power. It has the same affect and is a bloody sight easier than grafting away for a PhD..

RE: CLS500 Transmission problems anyone?

Thanks for the information Endodoc. I am very persistent and plan on having a transmission that shifts correctly or a different new car. I think that what aggravates me the most is that everyone acts as if they have never heard of this problem before. I sent them a copy of all these posts as evidence. Any help with the exact person to contact at MB would be helpful. Thanks!!
