Hi
I have a 2001 Cl500 and I had the same problem a couple of months ago. I tried to put in/out several times but no luck.
If you remove the side cover you will see a couple of screws holding the cd unit. If you remove these, you can unplug and plug from power and see if when tou turn the cd on, if the palstics gears move. If not, tehre is a little lever, you can presente and "reset" ( sometimes gets lock) and with that the gears will move again and the cds will be detected.
I should say better, it resets the whole arm that looks for the cds.
The cd has 4-8 screws around that holds the metallic cover case.
If you remove the screws ( with previously all disconnected ) you will see a little white lever that touches two little buttons.
With the cover out, plug again the power cable and turn on the cd from the radio console. Now, press any of these little buttons and you will see the unit starts and checks each of the 6 cds .
After that, the magazine will be recognized and you can put/play a cd to see if works.
Now turn the cd off, unplug the power, put the case back, and assembly the unit one more time.
Test it again to be sure the cd still works and after that just put it on the trunk again.
note : be carefull when you are removing the cover, due to there is a flat bus connector on the back that is very fragile, remove gently.
Damn, I was hoping it was just a open and push reset. Seems like it takes more labor. How long do you think the reset will last before the problem re-occurs

It is more the time you spend taking all covers out that what really fixes the problem. I think the arm gets stuck and when you press the little button unlock the arms and the magazine works again. I did this since earlier this year and so far no problem, cd working perfect. It took me around 1.5 hours to do this.
SAME THIGN HAPPEN TO ME WHEN I FIRST GOT MINE AND ALL I DID WAS PUSH DOWN A LITTLE HARD A FEWTIMES ON THE CD HOLDER AND IT POPED IT OUT WITH TQAPING EJECT... HAPPENED AGAIN A FEW MONTHS LATER.. DID SAME THING AND IT WORKS....
