Rev limiter even when standing still?

I was trying to take a clip of my exhaust notes while my CL500's parked.

Naturally, I stepped on the gas pedal to get the engine to rev higher in hope of producing the proper exhaust notes for the clip.

While doing so, I noticed that the engine would not rev. past 4-4.5K RPM for some reason. It appears that the engine would automatically cut its power when the needle was reaching past 4k rev.

Is this something normal? Or is there something wrong with the car?

this is normal, to prevent people from sitting around and revving their engines with no load.
