YOU ARE RIGHT ALI! I STILL CAN'T FIGURE OUT WHY CL'S ARE SO CHEAP. THE PERFORMANCE IS UNREAL. AND IS THERE A BETTER LOOKING CAR BESIDES THE BENTLEY GT AND OF COURSE THE FERRARI 430? I THINK THE CL NEVER HAD GREAT RESALE VALUE.

You are absolutely right but.......... the 215 CL is incredibly unreliable due to the ABC suspension issues. Most are scared to touch these cars without a warranty.

03 cl600 53k mi twin turbo/air conditioning problems

Hi I have been a member of various mercedes forums over the years and this one by far is the best and most informative. I always find interesting topics and receive help almost immediately

Anyway my 2003 cl600 with 53k mi is having air conditioning issues. When I leave the office at 5pm after the car has been in direct sunlight all day the a/c works for about 5min then starts to blow hot air for the duration of my commute home(approx 30min).

All the while the engine temp is anywhere from 80-100 deg/c. I think 80 deg/c is normal egine temp but it has been 90-108 deg/F here in Chino for the last couple of weeks. Before the "heatwave" the a/c was working just fine.

Also the aux fan is on and the the lower I make the temp the faster the fan blows.

If I happen to drive the car in the evening when its cooler out the air works like a charm.

Also on the weekend when I drive after the car has been in the garage all day the air works fine as long as I drive in the evening(after 7 or so) but if I drive during mid day with the air on said air works fine UNTIL I park the car for approx an hour uncovered then the a/c almost immediately begins to blow hot air.

Several hours later after the engine cools the air again works like a charm.

I believe the culprit to be a bad thermostat as the engine may be getting to warm and the thus causing the comprssor to shut off. Because I can not hear the comprssor cycle on and off.

Or a bad temp sensor on the compressor that reads the engine temp incorrectly and shuts off.

This all may be due to the ambient temp but shouldnt the a/c blow cold air in any case.

I have heard the term heat soak but Im not to familiar with the symptoms.

Any ideas..anyone with the same problems. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks In Advance

Yes it seems that even some dealers don't understand this. I had to explain to a dealer recently that the difference between the 02 and 03 according the MB website is that the 03's received the biturbo. I can see why some might be confused since the previous years were NA V12s.

However you would think that people would understand the hp per cubic inch ratio would be almost be 2:1 with a 5.5 liter V12 (340 cid) making close to 500bhp. You only get that with either really high compression or Forced Induction....just ask my 1000hp Twin Turbo C5 Z06 (347cid 5.7 liter).

I had the same problem- my mechanic evacuated and recharged the AC system and all is good!
