| CL600 Navigation & Ipod Congrats on your purchase, I also just purchased a 2003 CL600, about 6 months ago. The Navigation system in the 2003 CL is the last year that still uses navigation CDs rather than a DVD disc. The dealer sells them in a set of 10 (to cover the whole country) for around $275 or so. They will not sell them individually, but if you look around on the for sale posts in this forum, or on eBay you will find them once in a while. The latest release is 1/07 as far as I know, unless they recently released a 1/08 version. The company that makes the discs (Navteq) will contact eBay and shut down auctions of individual discs (ask me how I know!) so if you see a disc available for your region at a good price, you should buy it while the auction is running, they usually go for anywhere from $15-$20 for an older release, to $30-$35 for the later releases. Each disc covers only a certain portion of the country, usually 5 states or so. The discs from an S class or E class for the same year will work, but I believe the ML and "SUV" class cars use a different disc. If you look on eBay you can find which disc covers your state, maybe look in the completed auctions if none are for sale. I have disc 5 and 6 (only) left for sale from a 10 disc set, 1/05 version, asking $15 each. Let me know if you can use one!
As far as the Ipod, I found a small input jack on the right hand side of my glove box (the one on the dash, not the console,) which is an auxiliary input for the ipod. It doesn't charge the ipod or let you control it but it does let it play through the speakers and sounds pretty good. You can control the volume on the steering wheel buttons, and it will mute when a phone call comes in. It is kinda tricky to find how to switch the audio system to the "aux" input, the owners manual explains it, I don't remember off the top of my head but seems like it is the "SVC" button on the Comand unit or similar.
Hope you enjoy your new vehicle! |
