Hey Guys - JUST Registered - Few Questions (cl500 vs cl55 vs cl600)

Hey guys how are yall doin... I just registered, Im definitely lookin to pick up one of these cars by spring time. I currently have an 05 Chrysler 300C... I absolutely love it...



But its time to move up in the world, and Benz is the place to be. I grew up my whole life with my family owning Mercedes, so its about that time. I finally came to the conclusion that I do want a two door coupe, after reviewing the 13,000 different models that Mercedes has, haha.

So it came down to the CLK, the CL, and the SL. I realized (correct me if Im wrong) the SL, has no back seat, so that gets rid of that, as I do want a back seat. The CLK (correct me if Im wrong) is a lot smaller inside, and not as much luxury as the CL... so that brought me to the CL.

Ive done my research, so Ill try not to bother you guys with Noob Questions, as I belong to a few other forums, and we all know how that goes... ANYWAYS.... I noticed the main difference between pre 04 and 04 and on, is the navigation system.. which I like way more.... but thats all I noticed..

What else has changed since the 04 upgrade?

Im looking for an 04 cl500, cl600, cl55... between 20k - 30k miles... for under 40k US... Ive noticed I can get the CL500 with lesser miles for cheaper, as its not quite as nice as the 600 or the 55...

Another question I have is... besides the engine difference... whats the diff between the 500 and 600? Ive noticed engine, and cooled seats.. thats it... anything else?

And Also the cl55AMG.. isnt as luxury correct? I personally love the wood steering wheel and the luxury look... If you guys could help me depict a few differences between the models I would appreciate it!

The Cl wiring harness was updated in 2003. Comand System in 2004. As I understand it '03 and above are more reliable although still not without their problems (like any car...)

CL55 and CL600 have nicer headliner and in most cases are going to have all premium options like parktronic and distronic (cruise control). ALso keyless go.

There is a huge jump in horsepower going into the 55 and 600 although the 500 is no slouch.
I would suspect all things being equal the 500 may last longer seeing as its naturally aspirated.
The CL55, like all AMG models is built to a more sporty look than the 500/600.

Most important thing is to get a warranty that covers the odd stuff on the car like the ABC system, etc.. Expect to spend 4k or more for a good warranty. Anything less will most probably not cover the parts you most want covered. Not where you want to skimp...

As far as pricing... I see it varying all over the place but I paid 34k for a '04 CL500 with 47k miles on it. Perfect condition with no repairs needed. I feel like I got the right deal.

Thanks for the response! With the warranty issue... Wouldnt the factory warranty cover things like the ABC pump... (Ive heard about the ABC pump, but what is it? air suspension?) If I got a car with 30k miles... doesnt the factory warranty go til about 60k? So I should be covered for 30 k miles right?

Factory warranty is 4 yrs 50K miles.

So im guessing that is why the 04's are so cheap...

if i buy a 2004... do i have the option of extending the warranty right at any dealership? how much does it run?

If it is still within its original warranty I would suspect you can buy an extended from them but dont quote me on it. I would call them and see what they say.
