Well I have found a few certified pre-owned CL's from Benz dealers but they are well above the market/blue book price. Once they CPO the car, they jack the price up like 5k. With a CPO, they give you a full 1 year warranty on the vehicle. I found a CPO 02 CL with 49,000 miles for 34k but that is just to much when the car is going for around 26-28k right now. Unless I put down a lot of money, I will have to cover the nagtive equity once I sell it later. I know it.
I only plan on keeping the car for about a year. No longer. I run through cars.
I dont even know if Benz dealers offer extended warranties on a 2002 vehicle since it is now 6 years old. Lets say they did and i bought the car for 34k...add another say 4k for the extended warranty and add tax and title and im looking at over 40k for this vehicle. No way! Way to much for a 6 year old car. Id rather purchase something newer if its going to work out that way.
Have you check Ebay for dealer cars. As I mentioned above, the dealer from which I purchased my '02 had an Ebay Dept. and the prices were significantly cheaper dealing with this dept. than if you just walked in and didn't know the car was listed on Ebay. Try it. You might like the result.

Remember to low-ball everyone. The mark-up is tremendous.
I have always gotten my best deals by acting very disappointed that we just couldn't arrive at a deal, and then leaving. Either they'd block the door (almost literally sometimes) or they'd phone me the next day. There's always room. Especially with the economy slowing, they're desperate to sell cars, especially expensive cars.
One gambit (at EuroMotorcars, Bethesda Md ) is for them to act mortally offended and "genuinely" hurt that you don't accept their deal. How could you?! Don't fall for it.
Ok, here is where I stand now. American Service Center in Virginia has a 2002 CL500 listed for $31,900 with 50,000 miles. The car is Certified Pre-Owned so it comes with a one year warranty and the car looked flawless. The service history on the car was decent with no work on the ABC/power steering pump etc just yet.
When i got there he lowered the price to $28,500 which I think was a pretty good deal considering carmax has the same CL's with more mileage going for $28,000 with no warranty! And this is a certified pre-owned so even better.
I got to the dealer late last night so they are running my paperwork now to find me a loan and close the deal. i will let you guys know how it turned out. Thanks.

A one year warranty is not much if you plan on keeping the car. Do they offer an extended warranty?
So here we are on Saturday and I picked up my car last night. I picked it up 20 minutes before the dealer closed and as soon as I turn on the car and drove 10 yards, 2 bulbs go out and need replacement. (side marker and daytime running light). So they said bring the car back Monday and they will replace bulbs.
Since I bought the car in Virginia and I live in Maryland, I need to get MD state inspection on the car. I took it to get inspected and it failed!!!! Both left and front headlights were broke on the ends. (the part where you screw down the headlight to the actual car) They were broke and someone tried to glue it back together but didnt work. Sicne the headlights were not screwed on properly and shook, I failed. Well, I called Benz and they said drop the car off Monday and they will even get the MD inspection for me.
Now Im going to tell them I want a new headlight assembly as stated on the report and not a temporary fix. Im thinking they are going to get a MD inspector who will not worry about that and just pass it. No way! When i try to sell the car a year from now and my next local buyer wants me to get state inspection, it will fail again. So thats where i stand now. Not happy but atleast they will fix for free.
Again, they better replace those headlights or the car is being returned!
Not a good way to start off your relationship with her... On the other hand.. How may cars have you owned that told you when a light was out?
Where did you buy this car. You mentioned a Benz dealer... Who?
I bought it from American Service Center in Virginia. Its a certified pre-owned vehicle. You know, the fact the headlight assembly is broke and that it shakes, totally voids this car from being a "certified benz".
I will let you guys know what happens Monday. For now they told me to drop the car off and my sales guy said he doesn't know if they are going to replace the headlights but I have nothing to worry about.
Im not taking the car if they try to re-glue it. It is clearly broken and needs to be replaced. If not, they either take the car back and give me back my trade in and down payment, or they hear from my attorney. Again, a certfied car should not come with broken headlight assembly
