If you see one of these in you rear-view mirror on the autobahn, move over – it's the new range-topping Mercedes-Benz CL63 AMG, which will be unveiled at the Paris motor show later this month.
Under the hood the CL63 gets the same massively powerful 6.2-liter V8 that's already available in Europe in everything from the CLK to the new GL SUV. In the two-door CL it packs 518 horsepower at 6800rpm and 465 pound-feet at 5200rpm.
That's enough to propel it with unseemly urge (this is supposed to be a luxury coupe, after all), hitting 62mph from rest in 4.6 seconds on its way to an electronically limited 155mph top speed. While we can't deny that's quick, it's actually no faster than the V12 bi-turbo CL600, which also hits 62mph in 4.6s. Even the CL500 gets there in 5.4s.
All of which means that the AMG may sell on the strength of its styling as much as its speed – the CL63 comes with a bodykit and big wheels, though other road users will be pleased to know that upgraded brakes are also standard.
