I have a 2000 CL500 and the ABC signal light just came on and also I cannot engage ABC mode eventhough the red light on the button is lit. The car now has been way too soft and if going downhill, the front skirt will scratch the ground.

And even worse is that the window control buttons on the driver's side failed also at the same time, so the rear window would not fully closed and strong wind noise is evident on freeways.

Is there anyone has taken the ABC for servicing at a shop other than an authorized dealer's place?

I hope it's not something major....

sounds like you abc pump has gone belly up. i have seen a couple of them go bad. sorry to say that it is a pretty expensive repair. for your window problem, does anything work on the drivers door? if you find that the closing assist, windows, mirrors etc dont work look for a broken power wire going to the drivers door control module. if you look at the door when its open find the rubber cover that goes from the door to the body. you broken wire should be inside that cover. hope this helps.

Picked up the car today, ABC was $3400 to repair, by the time I was halfway home it broke again! also my windows are messed up more than before and turn signals dont work. I have had it with MB and am going to make a formal complaint. I do not want to bring it back to that dealership in fear that they now have some personal thing against me because I complained. Just to state.... I am the most laid back, never raised my voice or said anything that would make them think I was an a$$hole. I have learned in that past that if you are cool with people they will go the extra mile in service which was not the case here.

Hey guys, Im a service advisor at MB... trust me I know you're frustrated but one thing... every car manufacturer has a service dept... why? because all cars have issues with them. "But my friends BMW never did" I can show you hundreds of benz owners that didn't either. I hear all the stories from all the diff owners out there. I even ask around. I just hope no one has a Land Rover or Infiniti Qx I believe it was... they are at the botttttooomm, as far as service and quality

Cmon MB!! Its been 5 months since I got the ABC pump and lines replaced and was stopped at a light last night when BANG! a tone of smoke came from under the hood. I had called MB about the noise my ABC pump was making for months now (They said it was normal) and finally setup to bring in the car on Monday. Now its sitting in a dodgy neighborhood till they come tow it on Monday.

Yes!! 2 months and the ABC problem is back!! I have now replaced the ABC pump and lines, and just this month a recall came out for my car for the exact problem. Before the recall was for CL55 only (Nobody at MB could understand that it should also be for regular CL500 as well because its the same ABC hoses and pump for both models) My question is this... I have paid over $4500 in ABC repairs plus the car has been in 5 times to keep getting the same problem fixed. They fix what they screwed up for free but always seems to find some other $1000 problem. Now that there is a recall shouldnt MB credit me something for all my repairs and time?

Am I getting screwed by MB?

So as you can see from my last post that my car is back in service for the ABC. Since last October when I park the car the next morning the front passenger side of the car is dipped down so low the wheel is in the (wheel well) and needs to be raised before driving or else it wont turn. So not only have I had problems with the ABC but have been paying on replacing the control arm and bushings on the front passenger side, makes sense because the cars sits akward every night for last 9 months. Today I get a call from MB saying that now its the fluid control valve for the "Front passenger wheel" (see the pattern here??) and want $1400 to replace. I refused to pay and said I was going to keep the loaner car until this matter is settled, im pretty close to 6k in repairs all becasuse of the ABC system. Also a recall has come out for the hoses which I have paid to replace which is also the reason why my ABC pump blew (which I paid for) My sugeestion was that MB should credit me for the recall parts and labor I paid for and fix the valve using that credit and I would be a happy guy. The respponse I got was it might take weeks to approve that, so I said "Well, I guess I will keep the loaner till then" Is it me or am I getting screwed on this whole ABC system?

I purchased that car brand new and it has around 70k miles (all highway because I work from home) and its never been in an accident.

For the record, I love the car and do like the people at the dealership and they have always been very nice but not very understanding when it comes to this ABC problem. But I am afraid to drive it anywhere because I dont know if I will be stranded on the side of the Florida Turnpike which has happened before. Last month I had to drive to Miami for a business meeting and rented a car for the 3 hour drive due to my scare of being stranded. For 98k I wish I could have a vehicle that was reliable.

Sorry for the rant just frustrated, andy advice on my next step would be helpfull.

Alex

I was having the same problem and I took my 2001 s55 in for the ABC Hose recall .. they said the valve was bad too which pissed me off .. I would think that would be covered .. Anyways, I called around to figure out if this should be covered under the recall also but it does not appear so .. the dealer also told me that the valve may not fix the problem and i may need to get the pump replaced also .. when i talked to another service place they told me they just experienced the same problem with an 03' and the valves actually fixed the problem .. i hope this is the case with mine as i don't feel like throwin another 2grand at this problem that seems to be all over the place .. ty mb

ABC PROBLEM!!!

Hey guys...i have an 2001 S500 Sport and i think my ABC is going bad, because my car sounds like a jet, i took it to the dealership and they said the ABC pump is making that droning noise, and i've noticed my rear suspension starting to sag in the back and the past 6 months i've been through two sets of rear tires! The dealer said it would cost $1700 to replace, same question is there a recall for my car also? Thank you:thumbsup:

Well, its been about 6 weeks since I got my ABC fixed....twice, and its broken again! Yep the 3rd time! I have only driven about 1000 miles since the repair......ABC = BAD!!!!!! The car feels so fragile now I am afraid to drive it anywhere.
Better get used to the CL500 problems.

Make sure you have spare coin in your checkbook as well! You'll need it.

I have had mine 3 1/2 years, driven it less than 11K miles, and M-B has had the car for 57 days for service in that period. Some items still not fixed, and it's still under warranty!

Heat never works. First it was the A/C. So they fixed the A/C 3 years ago and the heat has never worked since then (and before).

I have a list of problems with that car which includes the ABC with fluid all over the place!.

Filed suit this week against them under the Ca lemon law. They will own it soon at a healthy price.

Do yourself a favor and bail out of it now before it gets worse.

My lease is up in November so I am def gonna give it back! Keep me posted on the Lemon Law thing, I used to think MB was about quality which is why I always wanted one. My ex still drives the 82VW that I gave and still runs like a champ
I beleive the reason why so many M-B "owners" don't complain about problems is that they lease the car and give it back at the end of the lease. They don'[t care at that point as it will be someone else's problem.

I, on the other hand, own my cars, and I am always concerned about any issues repairing them before they become an issue.

My CL has been a constant problem with incredible issues I have never had on all the cars I have owned combined. It's one thing after another, and that's too much for me to take.

I have not even driven the car 11K miles in 3 1/2 years!

It's a beautiful car but due to the problems we don't drive it much!

The lemon law suit is the only way to go.

With all the M-B's I have owned, M-B is foolish to have let this get out of hand. I have told so many people about these problems everyone of those persons has purchased other than M-B products, and we are talking high end models here.

So, M-B is the loser. I am done with them.

530i BMW has been fantastic, my 360 Ferrari is incredible, and the next 2 purchases will be a 997 Carrera 4S cabrio and a Quattroporte Sport GTS sedan.

You are what I call "the perfect customer".
Takes a reaming but keeps on licking.

Why does MB need to worry about little things like reliability and overpriced dealers when there are enough "perfect customers"?

My ABC switch went out last year. My car was actually lopesided. The mechanic described it as "riding on a bucking horse." I didn't realize how dangerous it was to drive it. Anyway, I had it fixed $1800!!!!! Ouch!!!!!!!! Then I found out that Mercedes had issued a recall notice for my 2002 and that would repair it. Save yourself some money check and see if your call qualifies for the recall and let Mercedes fix their problem. There is no easier way, I had my car towed four different times to get it fixed. Hope it helps. I have a new problem and am looking for help - the driver side of my car electrical side is not working. The window switches aren't working, the speaker is not working and the power seat is not working. We changed the fuses and even found the rear fuse. If anyone can offer help, I would greatly appreciate it.

i have a 2002 cl55 and have the exact same problem. the front passenger side is riding low and my switch on the dash wont raise the car. i havent contacted MB about it yet but I am done with this car, way too many headaches, going back to my nissan 300zx runs like a champ with over 150k miles. by now the service advisors all know me because of how many problems my car has.
